Not Really Standing the Test of Time, January 30, 2011
This review is from: Standing The Test Of Time (Audio CD)
Hailing from New Jersey, Attacker was your generic traditional metal band that offered little more than screaming, Haldford like vocals over speedy riffing and harmonized guitar leads. Fellow US bands like Metal Church, Jag Panzer, Omen, Virgin Steele and even Warlord were exploring that same musical territory at the time, but with much more panache and talent, and their intensification of Maiden/Priest clichés would eventually inspire Iced Earth into building its distinctively American power metal style in the early 90s.
They released two albums in the mid to late eighties and after breaking up in 1989 they would reform fifteen years later on their 2004 album Soultaker to a completely indifferent metal community, apparently disbanding after their fourth album, 2006's The Unknown.
This sixteen track compilation features four tracks from each of their albums arranged chronologically, which is not a very good idea, since it gives the false illusion that somehow the band's newest tracks may be as relevant as the oldest material could've been, but even if in its heyday, this was just another ordinary, run of the mill mid-80s US metal band with nothing unique or special to offer.
Fan of US based mid 80s traditional metal are much better off tracking the band's classic albums, 1985's Battle at Helm's Deep and 1988's The Second Coming than this pedestrian compilation.
