Great hands-on philosophy!, November 18, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Standing in Your Own Way: Talks on the Nature of Ego (Paperback)
This book creates an immediate intimacy with the author, Anthony Damiani. "Standing In Your Own Way" is the clearest book on the ego that I have ever seen. Damiani uses philosophy and psychology to define the ego and presents a very practical approach on how to deal with it. Philosophy becomes alives through the clear thinking and helpful examples Damiani gives. A real killer for the ego!

Deep wisdom from a student of Paul Brunton, February 28, 2007
This review is from: Standing in Your Own Way: Talks on the Nature of Ego (Paperback)
A series of discussions with his students Anthony quotes heavily from his teacher Paul Brunton whose work is very profound. Anthony and his group explore some of Paul's quotes from his notebook volumes "The Ego" and "Advanced Contemplation". Anthony has some very inspired and insightful things to reveal about Paul's writing. The book attempts to give the reader a good practical view of what this ego is that he is supposed to be transcending. A couple of quotes:
"To give up the self-will is not longer allow or permit the lower mind or the lower self to perpetually occupy you with its own thoughts."
"...but when you look at the dream, you know that the dream character borrowed whatever consciousness he or she has from the person having the dream."
Anthony's biggest contribution might be his book on Astrology: Astronoesis. I know Astrology is taken seriously in India. Anthony uses it as a tool to help us discover our ego tendencies as indicated by one's natal chart.
