You wouldn't think that pushing the top of an extension ladder a few inches backward could make such an incredible difference in comfort and safety, but it does. The first time I tried the AC78, I was astonished. I was able to work in a more upright position. The comfort level shot way up and the fatigue went way down. I worked for hours on the ladder, without the usual pain and exhaustion from holding such an unnatural posture.

The ability to span even the widest of our upstairs windows has been a major fringe benefit. It only clears by two inches, so it does involve a little careful positioning, but it's a Godsend for painting, caulking, washing the windows, and installing our annual weatherseal film.

You do have to observe the usual ladder safety precautions -- keep your hips between the rails, never over-reach, and always keep the house-to-ladder angle correct. It's all too easy to be complacent with this stabilizer; you feel so safe, even 24 feet off the ground, but your survival depends on it.

Since you have to extend the ladder two rungs up before installing it, it is a tiny bit top-heavy when raising and lowering, despite the light weight of the stabilizer. Not a problem if you have enough room to "walk" the ladder up and down, but it can be an issue if space is limited. The last few feet coming down can be a real challenge, but it IS doable.

I've used ours almost daily for three summers, and I couldn't be more delighted with its performance and its durability. I no longer go crawling toward the house at the end of a long day. Sure wish this had been around twenty years ago.
