I tried three different iPad holders for mic stands. This one screws onto the END of the mic stand so that you can no longer put a mic on it. This means you will have one mic stand for your iPad and another for your mic, if needed. It also means you have the full range and flexibility of your mic stand to arrange where the iPad will be.

The reason this is superior is stability and flexibility. There are models that clamp onto the pole part of the mic stand so you can still have a mic at the end but they are limited where on the stand you can attach them. They also have the problem of not holding the iPad firmly enough for my comfort level. You are tethered to having the mic one place and the iPad somewhere on that pole but probably at a lower height. I like having the mic anywhere and the iPad anywhere. I use a small boom mic stand for the iPad so the stand itself is out of the way and the iPad just "hovers" there for your enjoyment and comfortable viewing.

This one holds either an iPad 2 or the new (March 2012) iPad. It does not hold the original iPad. I have all three and have tried all of them.

I trust this one most of all three different iPad holders to hold my new iPad or iPad 2.

Given all of the glowing reviews that caused me to spend the money to purchase this in the first place I feel like the lone voice. Mine seemed to work fine initially but using it in the vertical/portrait mode the lower support clip just doesn't support the ipad2 safely. I've had mine fall out a couple of times (I caught it in time) and I now make sure I use it with the iPad mounted as flat as possible. If not, the ipad2 is able, with little impact, to ride up over the lower single support clip and slide out if your not careful scrolling pages. Disappointed and will be looking for a replacement. Bad purchase experience.

Update - Just use two rubber bands across the corners and the iPad is rock solid!!! So much for iPad chic. Thx K&M!

I wanted to review this item and confirm something, this has a 5/8" thread for standard American microphone stands. It is not 3/8" and I mistakenly purchased an adapter to convert from 3/8" to 5/8" but found it unnecessary.

Most importantly though, this is a heavy duty, quality iPad holder and is worth the money. I use one every week and my brother in law uses his in Uganda. Rugged quality...the guy who gave it 3 stars for not having the 3/8" adapter is really being unfair. Its $1.50 for one, so make your comments but don't knock a good product for a small oversight.

I ordered one so I could use my iPad on a music stand, to replace old-fashioned paper. Works great! It was never a tight fit, but acceptable. After a few months it was not holding the Pad tightly enough, and it slipped out a couple of times -- as others have reported. I emailed the company, and they got right back to me and said they have improved it, and promptly sent me a new frame. It is much better, and holds the Pad very securely now. Recommended. Great company and great product.

By the way, for a nice wireless bluetooth foot-powered page-turner for the iPad I got the PageFlip Cicada Bluetooth Pedal Automatic Page Turner. Works very well too. And a great music score management program for creating set-lists and even annotating the scores, I highly recommend forScore.

My title of this holder being pricey is not actually a complaint. I knew and agreed to the price before ordering and did so because of the reviews of the stability and quality of the holder as compared to iklip and others. This is one of those, "You Get What You Pay For" items for sure.

While 44.00 is a lot to pay for something just to hold your ipad, it IS holding your expensive ipad2 and very sturdily and very, very well. This is not cheaply made at all. Even the washer for mounting is a nice sturdy metal piece. I am a single acoustic performer using my ipad2 for my sets using the Onsong App and I'm more than pleased with how this holder clamps my ipad2 tightly, securely, and at any proper height or angle. When you clamp your ipad into the unit, there is a very definite secure "click" to let you know it's joined. Even the plastic that actually clamps the ipad in place is a great quality and quite thick resin-like surface. I'm not concerned of it snapping or breaking after lots of use.

The ipad rotates with ease yet holds it's position perfectly. While instructions are not really necessary for installing onto a standard mic stand, there are very nicely illustrated instructions included. I have this on a heavy cast iron based stand which I highly suggest for making this the perfect pair for holding your ipad2. With a heavy based mic stand you would almost have to knock it over on purpose for it to fall.

The only inconvenience I have at all with this (which really isn't that inconvenient) is that I must remove my ipad from it's leather cover and snap it into the stand bare. This is fine since I'm not concerned of it EVER falling now and I am only taking it on and off the holder for either practice or performance.
