I bought this unit over a year ago and have to say that I am very happy and impressed with it. I purchased it at lowes for about $25, which also has metal latches. 3.0 out of 5 stars Handy tote, but probably not for tools
I bought this tote to transport and hold all the items I use in cosmetology school: mannequin heads, hair dryer, and multiple small items like clips, combs, etc. It's great for that purpose - small items go in the top toolbox area, and the larger stuff goes in the bottom. However, I would be afraid to use this tote for tools. All the items I carry are lightweight so...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good For What It Is, April 16, 2010
This review is from: Stanley 018800R Mobile Work Center (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought this unit over a year ago and have to say that I am very happy and impressed with it. I purchased it at lowes for about $25, which also has metal latches. There are 2 versions, one with metal latches and one with plastic. Aside from that, they are identical. I'v read a lot of reviews on different units and realized that people are using them improperly or expecting it to do something it's not intended for. For example, the long handle is to wheel the unit around with "not to pick it up with". Of course the handles snapped off, it wasn't supposed to be picked up by that. There is a seperate handle integrated on top of the tool box to pick it up with. This mobile work center has been really great to take on job sites. I keep all my hand tools in the upper tool box and power tools along with other large items in the bottom storage area. The plastic is fairly sturdy and rugged and has held up very well with moderate to heavy use. I carry a little over 50 pounds of tools in it at all times and the handle hasn't had any issues. I bought this work center at the time because of the price and didn't have much expectations of it, but am very satisfied with the results and find it to be a huge value. I'm sure there are better units out there, but for the price and quality of this one, you can't go wrong.

4.0 out of 5 stars Light Weight and ready to go!, May 14, 2011
This review is from: Stanley 018800R Mobile Work Center (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is a great light weight box with good storage. I looked at a lot of boxes including the metal versions but found they were too tall or too heavy on their own before I even added my stuff. I need to be able to pick up the box loaded and put it in a trailer or in my SUV so it needed to start light and not be too tall. This is my new grooming box for the dog shows and will handle the taller bottles in the bottom section. My only complaint is that the extending handle could extend a little more. I am almost 6 ft and pulling this is just beyond my palm grip and the weight rests mostly on my fingers. For the price, it can't be beat (went to Lowe's and got it for under $20).

3.0 out of 5 stars Handy tote, but probably not for tools, November 21, 2011
This review is from: Stanley 018800R Mobile Work Center (Tools & Home Improvement)
All the items I carry are lightweight so it works for me, but I shudder to think what would happen if I swapped hairbrushes and curlers for wrenches and hammers. I really don't think it would stand up to that kind of use, unless perhaps you kept it stationary, which of course defeats the entire whole purpose of a wheeled tote. The plastic it's made of is very lightweight, the clasps are functional but flimsy, and the bottom door goes off its track frequently. If you're looking for a wheeled tote to transport heavy tools to a job site and back, I don't think this particular tote will suit your needs. If you want to carry lightweight items like crafting supplies or mannequin heads, however, this works nicely.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice box, not strong., September 26, 2011

My husband has been using the family vehicle to do some work for friends. He's been loading his tools in and out of our minivan and with a family of five, there isn't much extra room. I saw this toolbox and thought it would be helpful to him due to the size and shape. I was a little apprehensive due to the reviews but I decided to give it a shot. The first shipment arrived with a broken handle. i figured that would be it because my husband has no patience for things that arrive broken but after checking out the toolbox, he decided to try again. The next toolbox arrived in perfect shape and my husband was pleased he fit a lot on the toolbox.

This is not a heavy-duty toolbox. It will not stand up to a ton of abuse. The handle that you roll the toolbox with is by no means meant to pick the toolbox up. All this said, this size and shape make it convenient to use and hold quite a bit. If you buy the toolbox knowing this, then you won't be let down. I would, however, love to see a heavy-duty model of this toolbox and would be willing to pay more for it. Nice design.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Sweet Little Tool Box., January 18, 2011
This review is from: Stanley 018800R Mobile Work Center (Tools & Home Improvement)
My wife bought this for me as a Christmas gift this past season, probably because i practically begged for it lol, Immediately after i got it i loaded it down with tools, I am an amateur small engine mechanic and owner of a small construction company, so it was not loaded gently, there are socket sets screwdrivers, nut drivers, wrenches a ball-peen hammer, a bit set, a 18 volt cordless drill and many other things crammed in this baby, and so far the only damage has been where i did not take the bit out of my drill and it punctured the sidewall when i tossed it in, but that was my bad. Overall not anywhere near as sturdy as the steel and aluminum job boxes my hands and I use on the job, it is very good for the money. As for longevity i am hopeful but I have only had it about a month so can't tell for sure yet........

2.0 out of 5 stars The plastic is weak for a tool kit this size, July 11, 2010
This review is from: Stanley 018800R Mobile Work Center (Tools & Home Improvement)
It will crack if you come anywhere close to filling it. It just can't support the weight of the tools that can go into this big thing. Also, you can get them at Walmart and Lowes for $20. Its great for light hobby supplies, but this is not a tool box. Tools are metal and heavy and this will not support the weight. after tools killed one sitting still, we bought a real tool box and got one of these to put sewing supplies in. Fantastic sewing and knitting box.

3.0 out of 5 stars it's cheap, updated to OK, October 30, 2011

This thing sits behind the seat of my truck and holds my auxiliary tools. I rarely get it out, so it sees a minimum of abuse. It's flimsy and feels like it'll start falling apart soon.

Home Depot has a better version of this product on sale for $29, with metal clasps a removable upper tool box and a redesigned lower tool hatch. I'd recommend the other version, it's much sturdier.

Update; 2 months in now. I left it outside in the rain one day and the top toolbox leaked some. The bottom did not. Also, the hatch to the lower toolbox popped off the other day but the plastic material allowed it to snap back into place with a little effort.

I still don't recommend this item for anything other than lite duty work.

Update; I dropped this off the tailgate of my truck on accident and figured it would be shattered but it held up fine. Maybe it's not so bad.

5.0 out of 5 stars Handy Mobile Work Box, August 27, 2011

I bought this Stanley Box so I could place tools in it out of my Work bench and roll out to my vehicles when I needed to work on them or just for general service. O.K., Stanley calls it a Mobile Work Center. If it had a fold out table and maybe a power hook up I might agree with that terminology, but I would just call it a small roll around tool box.

Yes there may be more pricey metal roll around boxes out there you could purchase that may have more drawers, bells and whistles. But if you are looking for a low cost box that can hold tools to do normal maintenance on a vehicle that is sturdy and mobile, this will work fine. The upper compartment and tray will hold a lot of sockets, screwdrivers, etc. The lower compartment with the sliding door holds my tool role of wrenches, larger shop hammers, longer extensions, and cordless impacts & drills.

The extendable handle and wheels make it easy to move around on grass, hard surfaces and pavement. If your working out in the field where there may be soft loose ground or gravel, you may want to find a mobile box that has larger inflatable tires. I have loaded this box in the rear of my truck and laid it down with the tools inside. The latches are strong enough that nothing opened or spilled out.

To sum it up, I have had this box over a year now and have had good experiences with it. No problems with the latches, hinges or wheels so far. As I said before, if you are looking for an inexpensive roll around tool box that will handle holding most tools needed for normal maintenance then this is the one.

OVERALL A NICE LOOKING PRODUCT.YOU CAN'T PUT ALOT OF HEAVY TOOLS OR ALOT OF TOOLS IN IT.IT'S NOT A VERY STURDY PRODUCT.AND THE BOTTOM DOESN'T HOLD MUCH CAUSE THE COMPARTMENT IS ACTUALLY SMALLER THAN IT LOOKS WHEN YOU SLIDE THE DOOR OPEN.THE HINGES ARE NOT TO BE TRUSTED WITH ALOT OF WEIGHT IF YOU PICK IT UP.DECIDED TO USE IT FOR CRAFTS.
