5.0 out of 5 stars Best I've Found - Lightweight But Very Sturdy, July 12, 2007
This review is from: Stanley 11031 FatMax Telescopic Plastic Legs Sawhorse (Tools & Home Improvement)
I used homemade sawhorses with brackets and 2X4s for years, but the older I got, the heavier they were to haul around. And since they didn't fold, they took a lot of storage space and I usually wound up leaving them out in the weather, which meant replacing the wood fairly often. So the last time they gave out, I decided to try some of the lightweight, ready-made horses. But all of the models I saw in local stores were either too flimsy, too short, or both.

These Stanley FatMax sawhorses looked pretty good so I decided to give them a try. I have been very pleased. These sawhorses are very well made, lightweight and easy to carry. They are extremely sturdy even when extended to maximum height, probably because of the wide aluminum legs. They can be adjusted all the way to 39" high, which is actually too high for me at 6'1". And they fold to a width of only about 2" taking very little space against a wall or hung from hooks. I did miss having a wood surface for clamping, but that was easily fixed with some scrap plywood fitted with 2X2s that fit in the slots on the top of the sawhorses, making a nice work surface. Bottom line is these are excellent sawhorses and they fit my needs perfectly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fatmax- Excellent sawhorses, November 25, 2007
This review is from: Stanley 11031 FatMax Telescopic Plastic Legs Sawhorse (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought a pair of these based on a review in the Journal of Light Construction. I was skeptical at first but after using them for 3 mos., I went out and bought another pair. Hands down, they are the best saw horse out there. With a pair of 2x4's and a piece of plywood, they can be set up virtually any where and they WILL hold up THOUSANDS of pounds. I'm not joking. Find another saw horse that can do that!

Add to that, they are lighter than any other sawhorses I have used, they will not rust, they fold flat and adjust to uneven ground in seconds. All w/o tools. No screws, nails, wrenches or hammers needed to set them up or store them. Beat that!

Update 2010:
I wrote this review back in 2007. 3 years later and I am still amazed at these things. They stay out all year long in rain, snow, heat, cold and they still work great. Things I would like to add to the review are:

-A pair can be carried w/one hand.
-I hose them down all the time and they are very easy to clean.
-If you are cutting directly on them, there is no fear of trashing a blade as there are no metal parts that you might accidentally come in contact with.
-In the years that I have owned them, I have yet to come across a saw horse that comes close to these.
-The only cons that I can think of are that the plastic height adjustment strips that tell you how high the horse will be when you set it peeled off (I never used them any way) and some of the little rubber bumpers set in the top oif the horse poped out and are missing. I have never needed them, but if they are important to you for the work you are doing, keep an eye on them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stanley 11031 FatMax Telescopic AL leg sawhorse, October 19, 2007
This review is from: Stanley 11031 FatMax Telescopic Plastic Legs Sawhorse (Tools & Home Improvement)

This is an excellent product. They are strong and well suited for either flat or uneven surfaces. Because they fold flat, they are easy to move about. A very good feature is the slot for a 2X4. I built a 2 foot wide by 4 foot long table, with 2X4 base and it is really handy for an auxilliary work bench.
