Handy tool for quick smoothing, on-site edge adjustments,
By
This review is from: 3 Pack Stanley 12-101 1" x 3-1/2" Small Trimming Plane (Misc.)
I purchased one of these recently (not a three pack, as sold here) at a local Major Home Improvement Chain, took it home, did a quik setup (very easy) and used it immediately on a small house trim replacement project. The setup I obtained by loostening the thumbscrew, holding the blade up with my finger, setting the whole unit down on a _SOFT_ sorface (cutting face down), letting the blade fall onto the soft surface without letting it 'twist', then tightening the thumbscrew - gave just the right thinness to the cut. It went through the exterior cedar trim very easily. It was perfect for quickly adjusting the angle of the pointed end of the triangular cedar trim board while I was up on the ladder - a full-size plane would have been too heavy to carry around for very long for tasks like that. The size is a minor drawback, in that it is so small as to be easily lost or covered up on a cluttered workbench or work surface, or (in my case) if I were to have dropped it into the bushes below me... Perhaps that is why Amazon sells these mini-planes in packages of three. You may not have the other problem I had (YMMV), but my 5yo thought it was a toy and wanted to play with it.
