4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent addition to your tool box
How many times have you gathered your tools to fix something when your away from home? I am always going over my in-law's house to fix this or that for them. Of course, they live across the city and have no tools. The number of times I have had to leave and go out to pick up a tool...and it's always a royal pain. 2.0 out of 5 stars No great shakes, tho' economical
I have a bunch (passel? herd?) of saws, at least half of which spend most of their time snuggled up to the pegboard in the Land of the Unloved Toys. Stanley's dovetail saw is one of them. Why?

Well, there's nothing greatly wrong with it. Has a decent handle(though I don't prefer the wrist angle of turned grips), there's reasonable steel in the blade, and it's not...

I have a bunch (passel? herd?) of saws, at least half of which spend most of their time snuggled up to the pegboard in the Land of the Unloved Toys. Stanley's dovetail saw is one of them. Why?

Well, there's nothing greatly wrong with it. Has a decent handle(though I don't prefer the wrist angle of turned grips), there's reasonable steel in the blade, and it's not ugly (an unforgiveable sin in tools) or built in any large part out of plastic.

HOWEVAH, it also isn't ideal for what it should excel at: dovetails. The teeth are on the coarse side, resulting in a cut to match, and the set is too severe for accurate joint cutting.

There are advantages to this Stanley effort. For instance, it's inexpensive enough to rattle around in a mobile toolbox without causing guilt feelings in the owner. Also, I can hand it to my daughter for use in crosscutting various sticks without fear of tool decimation. In fact, she owns it now.

When/if her skills grow a bit, we'll get together to smash some of the extra set out of the teeth, resharpen it to a faretheewell, and it'll be a real dovetail saw at last.

This dovetail saw is a perfect tool to throw in your tool box. Its compact size shouldn't fool you; it always cuts precisely, with a perfect edge and can handle more than one might think. Of course, the joints I've cut have been very tight and clean. I am so glad I got this...I use it more than any of my other hand saws! Get it and you won't regret it.

Stanley has once again made a great product and as always it is very affordable. I have been using this saw for a little bit of everything for a couple of weeks now. I have cut hardwoods as well as softwoods and the saw is still as sharp as the day i got it. It is the perfect size to fit in any toolbox and it also fits pretty will in my tool belt. Anyway i think this saw will be cutting for a long time.
