4.0 out of 5 stars Great product with one persistent failure point
The good: Very lightweight and slim -- perfect for sliding into your purse or the back pocket of your jeans if you're on an excursion to shop for furniture or household items. Plenty long enough for such outings. I haven't found another tape measure that's as easy to carry around.

The bad: I've owned at least four of these. Every single time I've ended up...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great....but buy more than one.
Great little tape measure, but go ahead and buy two since the hook end is going to break off enventually. Mine only lasted a few months. I do like that it fits comfortably in my jeans watch pocket so it is always handy when one of our furniture store customers needs to know a dimension. A 5 star product with a 1 star lifespan.

Every single time I've ended up having to throw the thing away. The problem is the little silver hooked tab at the "loose" end of the tape, the thing you hook at the end of whatever you're measuring. The rivet that holds it on isn't secure enough. It fails with no warning, the tab pops off suddenly, the tape retracts completely into its case, and bingo, the tape measure is trash.

Bottom line: this tape measure is useful enough and cheap enough that I'll keep buying more -- but it's not a long-lasting item.

5.0 out of 5 stars very good quality, February 23, 2007

This is a very well made product. Very compact and high quality. It pulls out easily and retracts smoothly with confidence. It has an inches-in-diameter ruler on the other side of the regular inch ruler. You lay the tape over the circumference and the ruler reads out the diameter (instead of the circumference itself) in inches, thus saving you from doing the calculation for the conversion. But frankly, I seldom use this feature and would have preferred an international centimeter ruler (denary basis of course) on the other side. However, I still would give it five star for its own design even though I prefer something different.

This is a small tape measure that is perfect to keep in your purse or car. My wife is always shopping for furniture, etc and this keeps her from buying things that wont fit. It is a very basic simple (and light) 10 ft tape measure. It is metal, but will not support its own weight for more than a foot or two.

portable size is a great fit in the bag. did not think ahead of how thin and narrow the tape ruler would be, convenient for small measurements but not for ones vertical or longer, ruler is not able to hold straight for too much length. just a heads up.

2.0 out of 5 stars Love it while it actually works, January 26, 2012
This review is from: Stanley 33-115 10-Foot-by-1/4-Inch PowerLock Pocket Tape Rule (Tools & Home Improvement)
Love it while it works. Unfortunately that end eventually snaps right off. First time around I assumed from carelessness. Replaced it and took care to baby that end. A few months later it just fell off anyway. That end cannot take the stress of normal use. Not even careful tender babysitting. The fold over that keeps it from totally retracting back up inside itself is very poor engineering. So, here I am buying a third one, because when its good its very very good.

I bought several measuring tapes in search of the perfect one to throw in my pocket when I am headed for the hardware store, lumber yard, or furniture store. This one is good, but not perfect.

For a 10-foot tape that fits in your pocket, it comes down to either the Komelon 3110 or the Stanley 33-115.

The Komelon 3110 is 1/2 inch wide, so the tape is sturdier and easier to extend than the Stanley. The Stanley is only 1/4 inch wide, so it fits in your pocket with much less bulk...but, alas, it is flimsy and the metal catch on the end does tend to get broken easily.

The big problem with the Komelon is that it doesn't lock. Yeah, I know that they call it a "Touch Lock," but you have to KEEP touching it for it to be locked. Basically, you hold the button in with your thumb. Usually, that is just fine; but occasionally, you will want to lay the tape down with it locked. You can't do that with this one.

The two tapes are basically the same price, so you can't decide based on price. As a recommendation, I think I would have to give the nod to the Stanley 33-115 -- buy that one first. Then, after the little tab breaks off, buy the other one and decide which one you like best. If you are like me, you will be on the fence, too!

Stanley, make that tab sturdier! Komelon, put a lock on your "Touch Lock" tape! Then, maybe each of the tapes will measure up to our standards. Hah! :-)

I got this so that I would have a small ruler that I could bring around with me, especially while out shopping for items for the house. This works perfectly; fits into my back pocket, and doesn't bother me while I'm walking around.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice and portable, January 13, 2012
This review is from: Stanley 33-115 10-Foot-by-1/4-Inch PowerLock Pocket Tape Rule (Tools & Home Improvement)
If you find yourself in and out of the hardware store on a daily basis, this is a nice tool to have.

It slips nicely into a fanny pack, purse, or pocket and is handy to whip and and measure when you need it.

It does lock, but because the tape is narrow, it might bend on you. Still, I really have no complaints.

We have three, and they are all still going strong.

We keep one around the house when we need to perform a quick measurement and don't want to go to the garage and get one of the big tape measures we own.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for Its Portability, But Flimsy for "Real" Measuring..., April 8, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Stanley 33-115 10-Foot-by-1/4-Inch PowerLock Pocket Tape Rule (Tools & Home Improvement)
The Stanley 33-115 10-Foot-by-1/4-Inch PowerLock Pocket Tape Rule is a great little tool with respect to its portability! There are so many times I've wanted to measure a piece of furniture, a wall decoration, or the length of some hardware item and have had nothing but my handspan by which to gauge the measurement. Frankly, my spouse's tape measures were all to big and bulky - even the shorter length ones - to warrant carrying them. Then I saw the reviews on the Stanley 33-115 10-Foot-by-1/4-Inch PowerLock Pocket Tape Rule when searching on Amazon for a new tape measure for my spouse. I ordered this product and am so glad I did. No more handspan measuring for me.

The Stanley 33-115 10-Foot-by-1/4-Inch PowerLock Pocket Tape Rule is compact, lightweight and easy to use. It locks so that one can measure one length repeatedly. However, because of the width of the tape and its light weight, the tape is not rigid. This makes measuring something without assistance rather challenging. My spouse was less than happy with this item as a tape measure for inside our home; it was not something he would care to use for "real" measuring. I, on the other hand, loved its compact size and the fact I would no longer have to tote a large, heavy tape measure when shopping for something requiring measurement. However, I must honestly admit that it is difficult to measure longer items without assistance. The small hook at the tape's end does not stay placed well; as a result, the tape tends to flex so it is not always straight.

I feel the Stanley 33-115 10-Foot-by-1/4-Inch PowerLock Pocket Tape Rule is a fine product and would recommend it for anyone who needs to carry a tape measure when shopping. However, it is not sufficiently rigid so that measuring items without assistance is easily accomplished. For that reason, I did not feel I could rate it a five star item.
