Stanley 33-430 Powerlock 30-Foot by 1-Inch Measuring Tape

Pros:

- Based on the several of these I've used frequently for over 25 years, these high quality tapes have a long life.

- Locking lever works well with little effort, and the tape doesn't slip once locked.

- Spring assisted tape return is just right - neither too fast or too slow.

- Easy to read numbers and lines (to 1/16"), with stud markers every 16". There are no metric markings.

- Belt hook slips onto my belt reliably.

- Accuracy between tapes is perfect. There are no problems in measuring something with one Stanley tape and marking the cut with a different Stanley tape.

- Most tape holsters I've seen appear to be designed to hold the 25' or 30' Stanley measure.

- One inch wide tapes such as this Stanley are a good compromise between unsupported tape standout and tape curvature affecting an accurate reading. E.g., wider tapes like the Fat Max have longer standout, but you really need to push that tape edge down to make a reading.

- Even though a section of one of my Stanley tapes gets wet occasionally, I've never had one rust.

- At this price, it's a bargain.

Cons:

- Two improvements could be made: modify the end-of-tape hook to include a top hook, and the belt hook should "lock" onto your belt so it won't slip off so easily.

Summary:

If you need a 30' tape measure, and DON'T require the longest possible tape standout (as featured with the Fat Max style), this Stanley is a good choice.

and just buy one already. I got sick of running to my parents' garage or my landlord's shed to fetch a tape rule for any job a yard stick couldn't handle.

This was the best buy for quality and price. I am quite destructive with tools, and yet, have not managed to damage this one so far (1 yr of frequent use). The tape is also very easy to use -- just this weekend I was measuring my apartment rooms by myself and marveled at how manageable the tape is, even when controlled by one person from across the room. The cheaper brands I've owned have been far too flimsy to do so at all.

I really don't consider myself an old time construction man yet... But I have been using Stanley 30' Tapes for 26 years now. Nothin else feels right. Even when Stanley came up with bigger and better, the Powerlock 30' is what I buy and will continue to buy, for a good piece of time to come. The only reason I gave this tool just 4 Stars is that I can beat tools up pretty bad and they just CAN'T last forever. Stanley will give ya a good run for your money though.

There are lots of others out there with more sophisticated features and that extend out further before the bend but this tool have been around for a long time and will continue to be. It's a good basic tool to have and the price is reasonable.

The item description said it had a metal die cast case. What I received was a plastic crome coated case. I am a big fan of the old original die cast metal because they were almost indistructable and I would not have ordered this item if they had correctly described it! I feel like I've been misled.

The same trusty old Stanley Powerblock tape measure my grandfather always carried on the job as a general contractor as long as I remembered. I, of course, now own a couple of my own. No gimmicks or frills. Just a solid, clear, sturdy tape measure.

This is a great easy to use tape measure, the blade will stand out for quite a distance and its very accurate.

This was exactly what I was looking for and the price was perfect too. It came in plenty of time and I would definitely order from them again.

Who doesn't know those tapes? They are used by contractors everywhere. This one is a 30 ft. one. It is heavy duty and reliable!

Big & chuncky, but good for its use. Numbers are a little faded in their coloring, but ink is durable.
