I have used this tape 5 days a week for almost 4 years, and it is still going. I own a cabinet shop and work with this tape just about every day I'm in the shop. I didn't like the narrower 3/4" wide tape because it felt too flimsy, and if someone is using a 25' tape to build cabinets, they have not been doing it long. Nothing aginst framers, but a 25' tape is just too big and bulky.
I also had such a hard time finding this tape (it's 1" wide and hase the "blade armor") I ordered 4 of them, so I don't think I will need to worry about getting a new one for about 15 years!!! And amazon was the only retailer that had it!!!

Since they quit making my favorite contractor 16' tape, all I could find was the over kill giant tapes way too heavy and way too large. For a cabinet maker this was a problem. Then I found this tape and ordered one. After using it for a week I found it just a little larger and heavier than my old favorites, but better than everything else I have found out there. This is a main tool for me so I am picky about the accuracy and weight and strength of the tool. After much satisfaction, I ordered several backups. I have found that if you find something that works just right, better order more because they will change the product and usually not for the better. If it works, don't fix it!

Maybe Amazon's product description is wrong, but I received a tape measure with "blade armor" only up to the 3'' mark. It says in the description that it is protected all the way to the 6'' mark, which is double protection from what I bought... In addition, the retractibility on this tape measure is very low, leading me to rate its quality as less than what I assumed from all the 5 stars.

It seems that many tape measures are trying to hard to be the best, so just for fun I bought every 16' tape measure I could find and after a year or so of using all of the different kinds I have come back to this one. The 1" blade is ridged enough for light construction work and seems to last longer than the other tape measures. It is small enough to fit into the palm of my hand so it is easy to handle. I am a professional cabinet installer and have been in the construction business for 25 years. I have seen tape measures come and go but this one to me is the industry standard, just a no frills tape measure.

Tape measures, no matter what brand, have really gone down hill in the last couple of years. I have literally spend well over $100 on different brand tape measures the last 2 years trying to find one that wasn't a total piece of garbage. This has been, by far, the best one I've found. Only downside I can find with it is, "Made In USA with Global Materials" instead of "100% Made in USA."

The reason this didnt get 5 stars is because the lock sticks sometimes, but that might loosen up over time.

Edit: now that it has broken in properly, it's easily the best tape measure I have.

I agree with the other review & comments. I'm a commercial paperhanger with over 20yrs in the trade. 16' is usually all I need, and the thinner 3/4" tapes are not nearly as good, and usually end up breaking quickly.

I found a few of these at the local Target about a year ago. I bought 2 of them, and then noticed that they don't stock them anymore. I'm glad to find them here on Amazon at a good price w/ free ship. I think I'll stock up on a couple more just in case they stop making them, or they become even harder to find.

This is an excellent product with the information on the reverse side (metric conversion, nail size etc) that Stanley has provided for years. It, unlike many of Stanley's newer products, is still made in the USA.
