Maybe I expect too much from a rafter square, but the one I received was not perfectly square. I bought this square to use with a Veritas square fence. I ended up shimming one end of the fence with three pieces of paper to make it square. I don't know if there is such a thing as a perfect rafter square. I bought this one to build cabinets and furniture which is not the intent of the product, so I shouldn't complain. For framing it would probably be satisfactory. The yellow print on the black background is sharp and easy on the eyes. The product is definitely lighter than a steel square so therefore easier to handle. The description claims that it is made from extra thick aluminum. It is no thicker than any other aluminum framing square I've seen.

Background: I'm a weekend woodworker/furniture maker. I needed a large square for large pieces of furniture I'm making.

Pros

- Very light

- Very Easy to read

- The measurements I tested with a high precise rule and the markings where dead on.

Bad

- The square I purchased was not dead on square. Saying that, square enough for rough work but not even close for precise work.

My thoughts: If you need a square for Contract rough work...excellent. Looking for a square for woodworking...stick to your engineering square.

Markings on this square are high visibility and easy to read. Its light weight makes it possible to keep it within easy reach while working, and also easier to hold it securely against the workpiece than a heavier steel square. This is especially important when the work requires one to hold a square in an awkward position in order to mark a line, or to ascertain that the workpieces are square.

I absolutely love this framing square! The yellow lines against the black background, show up very clear. Its easy to quickly layout a Common Rafter. Also, the #'s and Lettering are more than just painted on, they're also engraved into the aluminum framing square itself. So if a little caution is used on the job, it will be something that last as long as I'll be doing carpentry and then some.

Anyways, great piece of equipment and I am very happy with my purchase.

Easy to read engraved markings. Light weight and well finished edges. Don't buy the $10 junk ones. For a week's worth of lattes, hold a real tool in your hands!

This is one of the best squares I have bought in a long time. It is very dependable and it will suit any home do it yourselfer very well.

Good contrast so numbers are easy to read, I haven't had the time to see how accurate it is, hence only 4 stars

I bought this for my son for college. He is going into construction. I wish I had this nice of tools when I was that age.
