My elbow loves it.,

This review is from: Stanley 51-941 16-Ounce AntiVibe Curved Claw Forged Steel Head and Handle Hammer (Tools & Home Improvement)
After overworking my right arm constructing an addition,(I'm an air cond. contractor, not a framer) for six months I could hardly grip with my right hand. The tendon damage was considerable. Every time I tried to hammer the injury would flare up. A local building supplier said try this hammer. Amazingly it works... and works damn well. No more pain, the injury has healed but using any other hammmer other than the antivibe will cause pain after an hour's work. The shock that went thru the arm to the elbo is gone. Worth twice the money.

Antivibe? Ringing drives me nuts!,

First, this is a very comfortable hammer (grip, balance, and easy on the elbow). The comfort comes at the expensive of keeping the vibration in the hammer.
After every strike, the hammer continues to ring for a few seconds. I thought I had a 5 star hammer until I helped a friend build a shed. My elbow felt great, but the continuous ringing for 2 days was enough to drive me insane! Even my friend was affected by the ringing while working several feet away. He had the 20-ounce Antivibe and it does not experience any ringing. I headed to Lowes to buy a new hammer and tested these two models in the store. I sampled several of the Antivie hammers on the shelf and the 16oz/20oz ringing/not ringing held true. If you can handle the extra weight, the 20oz Antivibe is a great hammer. It dampens the vibrations in a split-second. If you need a 16oz, I'd continue to look elsewhere if you need to drive more than a dozen nails per project.

Fix or Break,,your choice.,
By Tom in KY "Square Eye for the Tool Guy" (Western KY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stanley 51-941 16-Ounce AntiVibe Curved Claw Forged Steel Head and Handle Hammer (Tools & Home Improvement)
I buy my hammers 2 at a time, one for the shop and one for me to lose on the jobsites. I shop carefully for all of my tools and a hammer is a major player, useful every day. When you look at this hammer, you will notice that the handle has a definite curve. It also has an enlarged end. This is very important,it allows you to grip this hammer (at any point on the handle)with much less effort than a straight handle(common on wooden handles). Also, the soft feeling rubber that covers the handle, makes it even easier to grip. These features reduce fatigue and the potential for stress and strain related injury. 16oz. hammers are a good choice for light to medium framing jobs and trim work. While this or any hammer works well for demolition, I prefer my 28oz Stanley. The downside of that big so and so is,,When you and I strike ourselves;however unintentially, that 28 does a lot more damage. Straight claws are much more suited for demolition. You can swing full throttle with a stright claw and sink the claws into just about anything used in construction, RESTRAIN yourself from wacking your help. If you watch CSI then you already know that you might not get away with it.

This really is a great hammer, and far better than I needed. A welcome surprise. The antivibe is excellent for me since I have some minor nerve problems in my right arm from years on the computer. It's comfortable to grip and I'm just pleased with it.

If I had a hammer...,

"If I had a hammer, I'd hammer in the morning
I'd hammer in the evening - all over this land! I'd hammer out danger, I'd hammer out a warning I'd hammer out love between my brothers and my sisters Ah-aaah All over this land!" As a hint to my family that I wanted a new hammer for Christmas, I repeatedly sang Trini Lopez's "If I Had A Hammer" song hundreds of times in the weeks prior to Christmas. Great news - it worked! My family bought me this awesome Stanley Hammer. I've never been happier with a hammer! It hammers stuff real good. I've banged up my thumb a couple of times, but that's not the hammer's fault. I just probably shouldn't be hammerin stuff after I drink too much. Anyway...thanks to Stanley for making such a great hammer, thanks to my family for buying it for me, and thanks to Trini Lopez for singing the song that made it all possible! Gotta go now and use my hammer some more. As a great MC once said, "It's hammer time!"

Much better than the 22-oz. version,

Although others have mentioned the longer handle on this 16-oz. version (compared to the claw hammer), it does allow plenty of room to choke up on it to strike the right balance. Unlike the 22-oz. version, this one was easier for me to handle throughout the day. Most of the time I'm driving either 1.5-2" finish nails or 3.5" framing nails for various projects. This works great. Thanks Stanley!
