This is one of those tools that just puts a smile on your face when you hold it in your hand. For years, I've used an old wooden-handled hammer my dad used to fix fence with on the ranch. As soon as I got this nice Stanley in my hand, I knew I'd made a good choice. I was in the middle of a remodeling project when it arrived and immediately put it to work. What a difference! I didn't know what I was missing. Nice weight, balance, and grip. No vibration. A good choice.

I've been a carpenter for 20 years and I've used just about every hammer out there. I bought the Stanley anitvibe 20 oz. about a year

ago and I love it. The handle fits comfortable in your hand and the curve at the but of the handle keeps you grip firm.

One of the reviewer wrote something to the effect, "it's a hammer, what's the big deal". Well, I pretty much thought the same thing, and always used cheap hammers. What a difference this hammer (or probably any quality hammer) makes. It feels balanced in you hand and gives you confidence when hammering. If you don't have a good hammer in your tool box, get one.

Stanley 51-943 20-Ounce Anti-Vibe Curved Claw Hammer

This hammer works and feels good in your hand. You need the weight in the head of the hammer in order to get the job finished. What I noticed when I bought this hammer is to strike something metal before you buy one. The handle design works great for the vibrations that you feel in your hand, wrist, and elbow when you strike a nail. Depending on the type of wood that you are using you can use a lot of energy driving nails. The vibration in the handle will make your hand tingle over time.

There are different weights to hammers and depending on what you are doing you'll need to find a comfortable hammer if you are framing, doing carpentry or DYI work. I was in the hardware store and I asked to try these hammers out before I bought one. He had the 16 ounce and the 20 ounce Stanley Anti-Vibe hammers, so I asked to try them out. He had a nailing sample with different types of nails and I proceeded to do my test. I noticed instantly there is a difference in the sound upon contact with the same nail type between these hammers.

I pointed this out to the sales person and had him try as well and sure enough the 16 ounce hammer was singing(like a tuning fork) while the 20 ounce was working. Not everyone will be comfortable with a 20 ounce hammer, but in this case the 20 ounce hammer is far superior for work and lots of it. If you need a 16 ounce hammer look elsewhere. Estwing makes an excellent 16 ounce hammer.
