5.0 out of 5 stars nice and grippy, color coded, squared not to roll off bench
I got these on a lark since I didn't want to keep pounding hammer prints into my birdhouses. They are nice and sturdy feeling, easy to hold onto, and poked the nail in like I wanted. I additionally added a S, M, and L to one of the squared off sides so I could remember what color I needed. Maybe that will help me remember what color is what since I store them in a...

The grey one is easy to loose track of in the bottom of a tool bag or inside a box, etc. the color doesn't stand out among the rest of the clutter on a job site. The red and yellow work fine. I suggest that they change the color of the grey one to bright blue for example.

I got these on a lark since I didn't want to keep pounding hammer prints into my birdhouses. They are nice and sturdy feeling, easy to hold onto, and poked the nail in like I wanted. I additionally added a S, M, and L to one of the squared off sides so I could remember what color I needed. Maybe that will help me remember what color is what since I store them in a pencil cup and can't see the point size at a glance. I really like that the hammering end is square so it won't roll around the workbench when I'm not using it. I would have liked another size like another set offered on Amazon, but those were lacking the grippy coating. So far these have worked great.

Grip it. Nail it. Set it.
The Stanley 3 Piece Cushion Grip Set is much better than the one I had been using. Amazing how a little ingenuity can make such a basic tool so much easier to use. A better grip, longer handle, less vibration, color coded, beveled tips and a new square design to prevent rolling are all good improvements to a simple tool. I keep the set in one of my McGuire Nicholas 3 Small Bags inside my tool bag. Stanley 'hit the nail on the head', with this one! Sorry, I just couldn't resist! ~ The Boss

5.0 out of 5 stars These are very good quality..., January 31, 2005
This review is from: Stanley 58-930 Cushion Grip Nail Set, 3-Piece (Tools & Home Improvement)
I replaced my old Stanley nail sets with these and have not regretted it one bit. Though my old set was reliable and very good quality (good steel, through and through) these are much more pleasant to use. The cushioned handles are much easier to hold in wet or sweaty hands and MUCH easier to find in a crowded tool box or tool belt pouch. Also, by having three different colors it is easier to remember which is which! Lastly, though this is not a big deal, I prefer these because they won't discolor as much as my old set did over time (due to the coating).

Basically they are inexpensive and a joy to use!

5.0 out of 5 stars I've tried to think of how Stanley could make these better.., June 18, 2004

And I've yet to come up with anything... maybe designer colors. Seriously, it's a simple tool, it's a good solution and it's a great price/value. Trust me, if you use one you're going to find a use for the other two at some point over the next couple of years. If a job is worth doing it's worth doing right and using the right tool for the job. Three sizes, unless you are trying to set railroad spikes with these you should be ok. The rubber coating is nice, I've had my set for 5 years and other than looking like they're been dropped in the dirt (they have... a whole bunch of times) they're as good as new.

Nail Sets are nail sets. These ones just work really well. Nice long shaft for big hands and small places. Rubber grips that both help you hold on and ID the set size. Nice dimples in the heads, sticks on nails. These things are nice for lengthy nail setting jobs or any other for that matter.

I've had these for years. The squared ends keep them from rolling around (or off) the bench, and I've had no trouble with the tips flattening or deforming. An excellent nail set.

5.0 out of 5 stars They should make them all like this, December 26, 2007

Standard nail sets are uncoated steel, which is prone to rust, slippery to hold, and difficult to determine the size.

It is surprising to me that a simple, color-coded rubber coating is all it took to fix every one of these issues with standard nail sets. I'll even add another advantage: the bright colors make them easy to spot in the bottom of a toolbox, where they inevitably land.

This is such an innovation, that I really think all nail sets should be made this way.

Highly recommended.

The grey one is easy to loose track of in the bottom of a tool bag or inside a box, etc. the color doesn't stand out among the rest of the clutter on a job site. The red and yellow work fine. I suggest that they change the color of the grey one to bright blue for example.

I have also noticed that the points are getting dull on my set........and I only use them occasionally. So instead of using the next smaller nail set to tap a nail head down, I have to use the size larger than the nail head to ensure that the tip doesn't slide off the nail and create a larger hole to patch. Perhaps they are not using as high a quality of steel or heat treatment as they need to for this specific application.
