5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent folding saw horses, May 21, 2008

I'm a contractor and I have 4 pairs of these sawhorses, I'm buying 2 or 3 more pair.

When these exact sawhorses first hit the market 15-20 years ago I laughed when I saw them! I said "What kind of cheap homeowner crap is this?" At that time I made all of my sawhorses out of wood. These sat out in the weather, got rotted, got broken, took up space in the truck, etc. Then I made more, they got wrecked, so I made more, ...

Then I worked with a buddy of mine for a few days, a pro, and we used his Stanley folding plastic sawhorses. I went right out and bought 2 pairs.

These are excellent lightweight sawhorses. They are MUCH sturdier then they look. They're easy to transport and store and they can take a beating. These saw horses will not come apart like the newer, more expensive Stanley "adjustable" sawhorses (I had a pair of these too; the rubber feet came off first time I tossed the things into the truck).

Drawbacks;
*They need reasonably flat, reasonably level ground to hold the 1000 lb advertised.
*They can push over when loading big, heavy stock, IE., they're light and not as "planted" as wooden horses.
*You need to be careful not to cut the things when sawing sheet stock.
*Dirt and sawdust seems to really stick to the horses, especially when wet; and said crap ends up in the truck if you don't turn them upside down and bang `em on the ground.

I'm still using the first pair of these sawhorses that I bought way back when, and I can't tell them from the newer ones. These Stanley plastic sawhorses a great tool for what they are, they are way tougher than they look.

these are lightweight folding sawhorses, but the design is hobbled by the hinged top and the failure of Stanley to include FOUR extender tabs instead of two (what kind of crack are the suits at Stanley smoking nowadays? obviously none of them have ever used a sawhorse)...

any woodworker knows that sawhorses sometimes are used w/large C-clamps and a couple 2-by-4s to extend the width and support area... i bought these thinking i'd be able to clamp some extra wood onto the top surface area to support building a small dinghy...

but you CAN'T with these! there is no way to reliably clamp a 2-by-4 to the tops of these horses, and the horses-you-know-whats at Stanley ensured your frustration by only including two extenders!

if you want a set of lightweight sawhorses for modest use to refinish a small piece these may work for you...

but don't expect to put this product to work...

Very portable and extremely stable. There are two features which make these stand out: one is the secure locking centerpiece and the other is handy "V" topper. Unfortunately, there is only one set of the toppers, so while the product is clearly better than others, it is disappointing not to have the best on both units. If there was a `half star' I would give a 4 ½, but can't go to a 5 on this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great sawhorses, October 10, 2007

These are the greatest things since sliced bread. These sawhorses are inexpensive, light weight, convenient to store and strong. I would recommend them to anyone doing work in their yard or shop. I have seen other similar sawhorses without the tool tray below, but the usefulness of that tray makes having it worthwhile, so I wouldn't get sawhorses without it.

3.0 out of 5 stars What were they thinking?, July 2, 2009
This review is from: Stanley 60582 Folding Sawhorse, Twin-Pack (Tools & Home Improvement)
I'd like to second several statements already made -- why on earth would Stanley not provide 4 adaptors for the top rails so that sawing could be performed w/o destroying the rail? My (poor) solution is to mount plywood strips to the tops with cable ties, so that 1) they can be easily replaced, and 2) no damage to blades will occur when I hit the ties. I haven't, however, yet figured out how to make clamping to the underside of the top rails more effective, as this is a pivot point and cannot be covered with plywood etc. I hate to sound like just another wanker, but this truly does reveal a disconnect between the suits at the company and the folks that actually use the products sold.

3.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, solid sawhorses, but there are better products available, June 6, 2009

These sawhorses are solid and amazingly light. However, the "Storehorse" sawhorses are a more solid and better designed choice. I have both and have also tried quite a few other major- and off-brand sawhorses.

These Stanley have thick rubber feet that prevent them from "walking" on you and are non-marring for use on a finished floor.

The tops on these Stanley's are not replaceable and tend to get cut up from cutting sheet goods. They have a set of easily misplaced plastic brackets to hold a separate 2x4, and there is only one set so you can't equip both sawhorses. On the other hand, the plastic top of the "Storehorse" is designed to be replaced with a sacrificial piece of standard 2-by (1-1/2") stock (e.g., for cutting sheet goods) -- I rip 2x4s in half -- which is a much more convenient approach.

The bi-fold center shelf of the Stanley provides less rigidity and its finger hole is less convenient to use than the stiffer single-piece, snap in place shelf of the "Storehorse". In addition, when up (folded), the Storehorse's shelf has a nicely-sized handle for comfortable and easy carrying.

The "Storehorse" also has models reinforced with aluminum tubing for greater load capacity, but I've never noticed any difference between the reinforced and non-re-inforced models otherwise. They also have 36" models.

These Stanley sawhorses are excellent products, but you would miss out if you didn't also check out the only slightly heavier "Storehorse" sawhorses.

These work pretty good. They don't take up much space and are sturdy. I wish they were American made, at least they weren't made in China! And as usual , the Amazon.com service was excellent!

These are great sawhorses. Durable and stow away easily. I'm not a heavy duty construction guy, but they fit my needs when I was replacing cedar siding on my house.

These sawhorses are as useful as I hoped they would be. Lightweight and easy to handle and store. The tray is handy for keeping tools handy.
