Best for the money,

This review is from: Stanley 61804 Professional Backpack Poly 4-Gallon Sprayer (Lawn & Patio)
I have a review on the SP2 backpack sprayer that you might want to read, as I recommend this sprayer instead. I picked my Stanley up at Sam's for $45.00, and at 1/3 the price of the SP2 and better design features, I would highly recommend this sprayer above ALL others. You have adjustable pressure settings, you can pump it up sitting on a flat surface if you want. and it goes up to 60psi which means, unless you are spraying the tops of trees, it is more than adequate.

good sprayer,

I have been using this to spray fertilizer on all my plants and fruits (foliar feed) 3-4 gallons once a week for a couple of months. The pumping action is good although it loses pressure quickly so you have to keep at it, but it's not tiring. It could deliver a very strong spray at the highest pressure, more powerful than the 1 gallon handheld sprayers so it gets the job done quicker, plus need to refill every gallon now.I looked at the solo sprayers some of them do not look like rebuild is easy or even possible. This stanley made by chaplin has all parts you can order for repair and is all listed in the manual. The only mishap that caused a 4 star instead of 5 is that there was a leak by the hose one day, the hose clamp is plastic and cheap, even when tightened fully it leaked, down the back of my legs! Good thing I was only using harmless organic liquid and not pesticide.. I found a metal screw drive hose clamp in my parts bin and it has been working perfectly. I suggest anyone who buy this to replace the clamp like I do to prevent this problem.

Left something to be desired,

My issue with this sprayer is in the compression fitting where the hose connects with the sprayer wand. It failed after only a couple of hours use. I tried cutting off the flared hose to start over only to run into the same problem again. I'm not one to return things if I can't make them better. I dropped the whole plastic compression fitting idea and went with a brass hose bib and hose clamp. A much smarter way to go in my opinion. No more problems. Stanley should spend the little bit extra on a metal fitting and clamp to alleviate customer dissatisfaction.

Better than Solo Sprayer,

This review is from: Stanley 61804 Professional Backpack Poly 4-Gallon Sprayer (Lawn & Patio)
I had a Solo backpack sprayer for two seasons. It never worked nearly as well as this sprayer and I threw it away because so much was wrong it was not worth fixing. I am very impressed with this sprayer. I cosidered the SP sprayer, but the price seemed a little steep and I heard from one user that replacement parts were very expensive. This really is a professional unit. Everything is substantial and it has a brass tip on the spray wand. At the price this is a real deal.

The pump lever broke the 2nd time I used it. Chapin Manufacturing sent me a new lever within 3 days, but it was not the correct lever for my unit. I was able to salvage parts between the broken assembly and the issued parts. The sprayer is basically a good unit. I may have applied too much pressure to the pump handle and caused the lever to break. Chapin' response has been excellent.

Stanley Sprayer,

The sprayer works as advertised. Easy to use and easy to clean. It is more comfortable than other sprayers I have used, but the fact of the matter is that backpack sprayers weren't really designed for comfort. They were designed to do a job with the least amount of aggravation and this product does that very well.

This is really a good sprayer. Being a backpack sprayer, I knew it would be on the heavy side, so that doesn't bother me. My only complaint is that the straps don't stay attached to the sprayer: they snap on, but are prone to come off. As far as the actual mechanics and spraying of the backpack sprayer, it works flawlessly!

The first time I went to use the sprayer one of the cheap buckles at the top of the strap broke before I could even get it on my back. The buckles are undersized and way too small for the kind of weight the tank holds. And I only had three gallons in it. So Duct tape to the rescue. I throughly taped the broken buckle and for good measure the other one as well. That being said I do like this sprayer. It has excellent atomization which ultimately allows you to spray more weeds with less killer. I usually use three 1.5 gallon mixes to spray all of the areas and used less than three gallons to do the same area which was very overtaken with weeds. So my review only gets four stars due to a cheap buckle.

I have always sworn by Solo sprayers but moved to Oklahoma recently and needed a sprayer now.. My Solo was still at my other house 2100 miles away.. Never thought I would say this but I would buy next time a Stanley over Solo for it is a comfortable sprayer that does a great job.. So far I have only sprayed weeds and about an acre plus of my lawn but I am sold on it

Good Sprayer,

Well built for the price with excellent documentation booklet and well designed construction, good ergonomics, as comfortable as 4 gallons on one's back can be. Adjustable pressure and spray patterns.I experienced a solvable problem in that, after a few hours of use, 2 bolts connecting the handle to the pump worked themselves loose and stipped the threads of their socket. The specs on the bolt (allen head 7/16" at 20 pitch) were odd enough that my well stocked country hardware store couldn't match them. I improvised with smaller bolts and nuts and added a little thread lock goop. And was soon back wreaking death among the phragmites. |
