I bought it for laying out a 18ft X 28 ft garage. I used the string method also. You can see the beam in daylight by laying it on the concrete block. Then go to your corners and place that block on square and so forth. Then chase with a Fat Max 35 ft ruler. I like Stanley's "Fat Max Line" Its for construction and heavy use. Its quality you can feel at a reasonable price. Enough said......

Great while it lasted, but for $50+ I would not buy this item again. Bought 2 yrs ago and recently used for the first time. About 8 hours into a tile job, one of the lasers went out. Called Stanley Tools and they shuffled me to a company that makes it for Stanley. They said no way to repair it myself and the cost to have the light replaced and recalibrated by a service center would outweigh just buying a new one. Went back to Stanley at their suggestion and Stanley said sorry, just buy a new one.

This thing is sturdy and solid, and projects a very good beam. Moreover, it comes in a very good little holster pouch, with a red target. I'm pretty happy with this thing.Note that it is a little fussy about having good, fresh batteries - the ones that came with it barely put out a beam, but new ones yielded a very nice, strong beam. I chose this over the other ones available for ~ $100 or less, because it is rated at twice the accuracy and range - more than my kitchen requires, but will come in handy elsewhere later!
