About Stanley Bailey Clamps
Stanley's Bailey line of tools is designed with the woodworker in mind, with innovative solutions for making projects turn out great. A good clamp is easy to tighten and adjust, it holds securely, and it won't mar the surface it's clamped to. The Bailey line of clamps are designed to do precisely these things, with the added benefit of reinforced nylon and steel construction on most products that ensure strength and durability.

The Stanley Story

The Stanley Works, originally a bolt and door hardware manufacturing company located in New Britain, Connecticut; was founded in 1843 by Frederick T. Stanley. A few years later, in 1857, Frederick’s cousin, Henry Stanley, founded The Stanley Rule and Level Company. In 1920, The Rule and Level Company merged with The Stanley Works and would go on to become it’s famous Hand Tools Division. Over the years, The Stanley Works has produced some of the most innovative and useful tools ever made. Among these tools are the Bailey Plane, the Surform shaper, the PowerLock tape rule and most recently the FatMax line of products. Today, more than ever, Stanley continues to be an industry leader in tool innovation. In 2001, Stanley introduced more than 100 new products, bringing to 400 the number of new products introduced in the past four years. As a direct result of Stanley’s commitment to excellence, Stanley was awarded the Prestigious Golden Hammer Award, presented for New Product Innovation in both 2000 and 2001.

5.0 out of 5 stars Powerfull clamps, September 16, 2010

This review is from: Stanley 83-023 24-Inch Bailey Heavy Duty F Clamp (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have 4 of these and they probably see more use than all my other clamps combined. Actually, I got 2 of the 30 inc clamps and 2 of these 24 inch clamps, and cut the bars of the 24 inch clamps in half. Putting all the heads on the short bars gives me 4 clamps with a capacity of about 10 inches, but I can switch the heads out on 2 of them to make 30 inch clamps if the need ever arises. The short clamps are perfect and their weight is very manageable.

The 5 inch throats on these clamps and the long screws let them get into places other clamps can't. They are great for holding down boards for sawing or other such tasks. They are really fast to get adjusted and tight.

They are capable of crazy clamping pressure. The 1,000 lb rating is not some wildly optimistic figure; these things are strong. If what you need to clamp or straighten needs to keep a nice finish, you had better use cauls or there will be divots. The rubber pads don't stay in place, but with the forces these clamps generate, they don't do a lot anyways. You have to use cauls.

It would be unfair to compare these to parallel bar clamps as they are more of a specialty clamp that is only good for gluing up fine furniture. These F clamps will do about as well as the parallel clamps in most glue ups if you know how to use cauls but the convenience factor isn't there.

Positives: Large comfortable rubber grip is easy on the hands, very sturdy construction. Negatives: Rubber pad on tail-piece will not stay on; I had to attach it with double stick carpet tape (this works well and the tape is hidden behind the pad). The rubber pads leave a stain on the wood which is dificult to remove.
