5.0 out of 5 stars truck service mechanic -- excellent wrench
I work for a large truck leasing company, servicing its rental fleet. I now use my locking wrench on every preventative maintenance service. It is fantastic at loosening 4-sided drain plugs from differentials, crank cases, and transmissions. It hangs on and does not slip off. 3.0 out of 5 stars Excellent idea poorly executed
I had a wrench of this pattern made by Chapman Tool Company in the 1970's and it was one of my all-time top favorites. The locking lever not only took out the slack inherent in an adjustable wrench, it held the wrench on the nut freeing my hands to grab another wrench or to manipulate the work. 5.0 out of 5 stars truck service mechanic -- excellent wrench, December 9, 2006
This review is from: Stanley 85-610 10-Inch Long MaxGrip Locking Adjustable Wrench (Tools & Home Improvement)
I work for a large truck leasing company, servicing its rental fleet. I now use my locking wrench on every preventative maintenance service. It is fantastic at loosening 4-sided drain plugs from differentials, crank cases, and transmissions. It hangs on and does not slip off. My only gripe is that it does not come in a larger size. 10 inch is a good size for around the house; but on these trucks I often find myself hammering on the wrench handle to get plugs loose. I've used it on over 100 trucks so far, and it has held up great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Non-marring plumbing, February 6, 2007

This is a cross between a vice-grip and a crescent wrench. This is great for bath/kitchen plumbing when you need to remove stubborn fixtures and do not want to embed the channel lock/pipe wrench teeth into the chrome fixture and leave rough teeth marks on the smooth surface. The wrench locks down without marring the polished finish and it will not fall off if your hands are slippery wet. I also would like to see this tool in a 12" version.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best adjustable wrench, November 18, 2004
This review is from: Stanley 85-610 10-Inch Long MaxGrip Locking Adjustable Wrench (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is the best adjustable wrench I have ever used. We carry adjustable wrenches in all of our tractors and trucks(11) and full toolboxes in the pickups, but this is the tool we all reach for. It offers all the advantages of other adjustable wrenches, such as always having the right size whether metric or emglish. However, it never slips. Simply lock the handle and turn. I use it instead of open and box end on rounded and rusty bolts because it WILL NOT SLIP. No more busted knuckels and cutting bolts because all the corners are rounded off. If you have 2 sides left on a nut, this wrench will work. My only complaint is that they don't offer it in 12" and 15" versions.

I was very sorry to lose the Chapman Tiger-lock overboard and I was delighted to see Stanley offering one, and bought it without hesitation.
I was disappointed to see the Stanley version is made in China and the fit of the working parts is marginal, but it does work and it will be going into my Daily Favorites toolbag in spite of its chunkiness. The finish is good and the jaws will open for a 1-1/4" nut. The price is reasonable. If it were made to the standards of Klein or Channellok I would have paid twice as much--cheerfully!

5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST ADJUSTABLE CRESCENT, BAR NONE!, December 7, 2004
This review is from: Stanley 85-610 10-Inch Long MaxGrip Locking Adjustable Wrench (Tools & Home Improvement)
Every now and then a tool comes along that is so much better than those with similar function, you can't believe it can be so good. The MaxGrip is such a tool. Once you use it, it will be the crescent you use 99% of the time. It has a bulldog grip with parallel jaws, unlike vise grips. It will not harm the nut or bolt flats. It is ideal for one man jobs, in that you can lock it on a nut and then turn the bolt without the hassle of the nut holding wrench falling off. It even works for holding small parts for drilling or other types of work... better than a drill vice. Why did it take so long for it to be developed... as usual it looks simple once you use it, and makes many nasty jobs much easier. I am sure it won't be long before Stanley comes out with the whole range of MaxGrip crescents, from 4 inches to 36 inches... it is a winner!

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST wrench to have !, May 12, 2007
This review is from: Stanley 85-610 10-Inch Long MaxGrip Locking Adjustable Wrench (Tools & Home Improvement)
This wrench is very handy----use on metric and standard bolts and nuts. Locks on like a vise grip----no rounded corners. I keep one in the tractor as well as the vehicle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great idea, solves lots of issues, an essential item., November 13, 2009
This review is from: Stanley 85-610 10-Inch Long MaxGrip Locking Adjustable Wrench (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is a fine example of taking 2 simple and well understood technologies, and combining together to make an ultimately more valuble endproduct. Traditional adjustable wrenches can hold a setting worth $h*+. Traditional vise grips lack parallel jaws, and are terrible at holding onto any "intentional" fastener (i.e. nut or bolt). This solves a few of the major frustrations of each. This is great for "breaking" a nut or bolt. I'd still keep my traditional adjustable wrench to use after breaking a nut loose, as this one does not work well for turning -> going to next hex flat -> turning -> going to next flat -> turning . . . This wrench will become an essential in my traveling tool bag.

This thing has saved me from having to get help for someone to hold it while I get it from the other side on many occasions. Great idea.

This is a neat and well-made tool. I use it as a hand vise and for holding nuts when disassembling and assembling mechanical things. I especially like the non-grooved jaws. I just wish it was made in USA! A smaller version would be useful, too.
