2.0 out of 5 stars Cool Set - Lousy Storage
The tools themselves are really decent but the storage case was a joke. The sockets kept falling out of the keeps and became impossible to close the case.

This set has been great for maintenance around the shop. Carrying it on the truck, however, reveals the problems everyone's been having with the case.

Given that you can generally adjust most of the sockets to stay firm even when bouncing along on and off road, it's really not such a problem that the case doesn't hold them fast all the time. The biggest hangup is the foam padding ~ I've noticed it tends to get pinched between socket and case, and when it does those are the sockets that pop out.

Another reviewer suggested using a sheet of bubble wrap, and that or a sheet of soft foam should take care of the problem entirely.

I bought this set because it had all the sockets and wrenches I needed in one case. Additionally, very few people have black socket sets and it makes it easy to identify my tools on the job site. The one major complaint I have is the sockets falling out of their places when you open the case. It's not just one or two, but nearly half.

This set is very nice, and like everyone says the case is bad at keeping the tools in. To solve this problem I had some bubble wrap laying around, and I put it in the case which fixed that problem. Good tools none the less.

First of all these tools look great since they're in black chrome which helps identify YOUR tools. I've gotten a few comments on them from the other guys in the shop so far. I'm an entry level tech and can't afford to be spending the silly money for industrial tools like your Snap-On, Matco, MAC, etc to fill my whole tool box just yet. So I only buy the industrial things you shouldn't go cheap on like the box and impact/air stuff. I have been using these on a daily basis now for almost 2 months and they are well worth the money and are of exceptional quality. Do I expect these to last for years in a professional shop environment? No... But judging by how they've held up so far, they will definitely last until I can afford the pro level stuff. But it's also worth mentioning that these tools have a lifetime warranty as well.

THE PRODUCT IS GREAT BUT THE CASE THAT HOLDS THE PRODUCT NEEDS ALOT OF WORK. IT DOES NOT HOLD SOCKETS & DIFFERNT PARTS THE WAY IT SHOULD.TO MUCH TROUBLE AND NOT WORTH IT

I received several Visa gift cards for christmas (and knowing pretty much what I wanted), I headed straight to Amazon.
I wasn't 100% sure of the specifics, but I knew it was a new set of tools for working on my motorcycle. There were many mechanics sets to choose from (some w/ more tools, some w/ less tools and all about the same price). I knew that over time I would be looking for my new tools amongst all of my old ones, So I decided on the Black Chrome. Now there is no chance these will ever blend in with my old tools.
One of the other selling points for me was the lack of Allen Wrenches in this kit. Some other kits had over 100 tools included, but most included 20 or more allen wrenches. I have at least 3 full sets of these already, so the last thing I wanted to do was get more.
The package was well packed, and arrived on time. Not one tool had even broken loose inside the case during shipping (I don't usually see kits looking this nice in the store). The black Chrome is very sharp looking and stands out wonderfully against all of my other tools. And of course there is the Stanley lifetime warranty, so I definately feel that I got an amazing deal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Wrench,Socket and Ratchet set, June 11, 2008

This review is from: Stanley 92-839 Black Chrome and Laser Etched Socket Set, 99-Piece (Tools & Home Improvement)
I thought the 99 piece Stanley Black Chrome Socket set was a beautiful socket set. I did have a couple of sockets fall loose at times when I closed the top portion of the case but not all the time. I turned those particular 2 sockets upside down in their places and close the case slowly and now I don't have any difficulty closing the case. Still a really nice socket and ratchet set with some included wrenches.

4.0 out of 5 stars YES...But NO......, January 11, 2012

This review is from: Stanley 92-839 Black Chrome and Laser Etched Socket Set, 99-Piece (Tools & Home Improvement)
I was so excited to finally get this tool set. I was looking forever for a good set of tools in a thin case. But....my dream was short lived. I opened the box and there were these beautiful black tools looking me in the face. Nice, bold markings to tell which size is which. After finally getting the annoying plastic covering off, I was able to examine the tools closer.....FLAWLESS. but here is when it all went to heck! A couple of reviews said that the case was cheaply made and some of the sockets started to fall out of place after a while. I thought..."I'm easy on things, I shouldn't have any issues." I put the sockets back that I was examining, went to close the case, and a bunch of sockets fell out of place. "I must have not put them back in place good enough" I thought. I pushed them firmly back into place, attempted to close the case, then the same thing. I'm ashamed to say i didn't even get to use the tools. Overall...great looking tools...probably very sturdy and durable...terrible case :(

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice tool set for the casual mechanic and do-it-yourself-er., January 23, 2011
This review is from: Stanley 92-839 Black Chrome and Laser Etched Socket Set, 99-Piece (Tools & Home Improvement)
When something breaks around the house, or I need a part replaced on my car, I like to do it myself. I also like to tinker with my car and add performance parts and things like that. I needed a set of tools with deep and shallow sockets, and I needed a case to go with it. I got this set for a steal from my local WalMart, and I'm pretty satisfied. It doesn't have every tool under the sun but it is a great full featured set of sockets.

As far as the warranty, its great to have, but its not like craftsman where you can go to sears and get it replaced. That would be great, but I don't live by a sears, as they seem to be vanishing into thin air, so even if I bought craftsman I couldn't just go out and pick the part up anyways.

The sockets are well organized, and the gold labels make them really easy to identify. You've got a full set if 1/4 and 3/8 sockets, and you've got shallow and deep sockets in both sizes. You also get a set of wrenches, not too many sizes but they can be useful. The ratchets themselves seem very sturdy, along with the sockets. The 1/4 ratchet is great for times when you're limited on space or have a part that shouldn't be torqued too much.

I've got one thing I don't like, I would've liked BOTH sides of the case to have a snug fit on the sockets. The case is meant to be opened logo up, if you open it the other way the sockets will fall out.

Overall, if you need a sort of "mechanics" set of sockets and ratchets, this is a great set.
