5.0 out of 5 stars Very useful and effective
This device works very well to straighten bowed deck boards. Very simple to use, can change quickly from joist to joist. Only down side is that you need one person to use the tool and one to hammer in nails. (Some might be able to do both at the same time, but it wouldn't be easy. No complaints at all.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad
Worked great untill bolt broke holding the head after pressing only 8 rows of deck boards. Replaced the bolt with a stronger grade 5 bolt, and no problems since

A friend and I are building a 30'x 30' deck using composite. He was aware of a "board bender" but a call to the local stores including the big box stores turned up nothing. We finished about half of the deck floor without it and it was slow and difficult to get the proper spacing on the boards as even molded composite boards are not entirely true. I decided to check on-line and it was well worth the cost. The last half of the deck bords went faster and without strain. I am puttting 9" trim board from floor to ground and the deck is raised about 6 feet on one end so I have had the occasion to use it there as well to get correct spacing. However, in order to use it on the trim, the vertical nailers have to be joist thickness as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars This product actually works as advertiesed., October 12, 2008

I've heard from a few professional deck builders that I was wasting my time trying to use one of these board benders. I'm currently working on two different decks on my house by myself and this tool works great. I was worried about whether it worked or not and it has been a huge help to me. You just set the hook part over a joist and pull the bar down and it pulls the board towards you and up to where you want it. Almost every long deck board has some bend to it and isn't straight, so this is a must have.

I had a lot of boards that were starting to warp/bend while building a deck recently. This proved to be invaluable and really worked great. The box stores (Home Depot and Lowes) don't carry this item. It is a shame they don't. Simple design, works as stated. Completely worth the money, no regrets.

From building decks to framing houses and most probably opening your favorite beverage this tool can straighten out even the the most stubborn boards shipped by your favorite supply company. The ease of use allows the novice laboror to perform the task with ease, freeing you up for more important tasks. This is a well constructed tool in the Stanley tradition.

THIS WILL NOT WORK WITH DIAGONAL DECKING! I did not read that anywhere so I wanted you all to know. It might be great but since I wouldn't work for me, I cannot fully judge it. The description should have stated it's limitation. If you have a helper and the deck is not way off the ground, you can easily accomplish the same thing with a long 4 x 4 and some blocking. Just put the 4 x 4 between the joists until the end hits the ground. Put blocking between the 4 x 4 and the board you need to straighten and then put the top of the 4 x 4 in to tighten the deck board...then nail it. In case you think this is really hard, my wife handled this while I was under the deck attaching the boards with hidden fasteners.

For anyone building a deck, this is THE tool for squeezing the boards together before screwing them down. I used one 10 years ago but it was borrowed, I went to buy my own and you can't find one anymore. Glad I found this one, there is no substitute. Even after the boards have dried you can barely squeeze a piece of paper in the gap. The deck I built 10 years ago for my ex, still has gaps you can't push a coin through. Not sure why Stanley doesn't make it anymore, but it is a great tool.

4.0 out of 5 stars Board Bender Review, June 2, 2011

This is a great tool that arrived promptly. I was a rookie deck builder, and I used this tool to help bring my pressure treated boards in tight. It worked as advertised and was very helpful with a one person job. The only drawback to the tool is that the u shaped part that fit on the joist could be a little awkward to put in place. Boards that are really bent are difficult to keep in place, but it keeps it straighter than you would be able if you were trying to install a bent board by hand. This was well worth the investment to me.
