Stanley thermoses have been a part of our family for generations, going back to my great grandfather. Stanley has a reputation for ruggedness and high-quality, and this Stanley Outdoor Lunchbox cooler lives-up to that reputation. First of all this combo comes with one of Stanley's famous vacuum flask thermoses. Vacuum flask technology is the best technology for preventing thermal attrition (keeping your hot drinks hot and your cold drinks cold). I enjoy my coffee very hot and my water ice cold. When I received this I tested it and found that it kept my coffee nice and hot (not lukewarm) for over 2 days! As for cold, it had ice in my ice water in it after almost 3 days (and I live in the south where it's warm).

The entire bottle is stainless steel. It is double-walled, with a vacuum between the steel walls. The screw-on stopper seals very nicely and is made of a very strong plastic, it seems very solid. The cup fits well and is solid plastic with chrome on the outside.

The cooler has two compartments inside:
The larger compartment is 7-1/8 in. x 7-7/8 in. (inside dimensions)
and the smaller compartment is 7-1/8 in. x 4-1/4 in. (inside dimensions)

The cooler works very well (amazingly well, actually) keeping food nice and cool - I also add one of those plastic ice packs to keep it cold things really cold and at the end of the day the ice pack itself is barely melted/almost totally solid ice still. It has a nice locking handle that when placed in the upright position snap-locks the lid onto the cooler and locks the thermos between the cooler and the handle (there is a curved recess in the top of the lid that the thermos fits onto and when the handle is in place, that thermos will NOT fall-out accidentally).

The thermos is amazing and keeps hot water hot for over 24 hours, the cooler is good with ice to keep your lunch cool for about 3-6 hours depending on how hot of an area you keep the box. Mine has held up well for being bounced around in tractors and in the back of my pickup for some time. The thermos is heavy steel and has dented and scratched but that is to be expected with hard use.

It would be nice if the divider in the lunch box was removable, I have considered cutting it out of mine.

I have used this setup for some time now. I throw my lunchbox in the back up my pickup. On a day that was -18 outside the handle broke on the lunchbox. I contacted Stanley customer service via email and was sent a replacement lunchbox. I paid extra for the quality, and the quality shows up in their customer service. Now I can continue to use these quality products for many more years.

For years now I've worked in construction, and hate leaving the job site when I'm filthy to get in the truck to go grab an unhealthy fast food lunch. Once you drive to where you're going, wait in line, go back to the job site...if you've got a half hour lunch, you're lucky to have 10 minutes to wolf it all down. This is stressful. Maybe I'm getting more mature? Personally I like to have a little respite and eat in peace, but often I have essentially gone without a break to run around town chasing lunch because my choices are to literally "brown bag it", or take my enormous playmate cooler, that let's face it, isn't a cooler without a freezer bucket's worth of ice every morning. I have used the Stanley thermos for coffee before, Which keeps beverages either hot or cold), but have always carried it along separately with whatever other bulky crappy lunch container I brought with me. Every other cooler I've used, the lid pops off when you don't want it too, or it won't close. Now I've read other reviews from folks complaining about the Stanley's box size being too small, but my thoughts on that are unless you are eating like a horse, or are trying to pack one for lunch it's ideal for someone between 180 - 280 lbs. I guess if you need 5 sandwiches, family size bags of chips, and two liter bottles of pop for eats, this is probably not the lunch box for you. I bought two coleman reusable ice packs from Walmart for a couple bucks that fit perfectly in the Stanley's two compartments. I have no problem packing my average daily lunch of 1 banana, a full size sandwich, a ziplock bag of chips, a granola bar, some carrots, and sometimes either a bowl of salad, or a bowl of salsa for chips. It all fits WITH THE TWO ICE PACKS! And there's still room for cookies and a couple hard boiled eggs.Read more ›

My husband has had his Stanley Lunchbox Combo for 23 years! He is a commercial carpenter so you can guess this product isn't always handled with the best of care. Just now, the handle is starting to lose its grip so I am finally getting him a new set. And, this entire combo has been in the dishwasher---many times. I know it says not dishwasher safe, but I find that to only be a suggestion (sometimes you just have to sanitize it better than hand washing); working in construction it gets all kinds of dirt and dust on it and in it. Also I have read some other reviews on the compartment size....no complaints here...this compartment fits his lunch (and he's not eating finger sandwiches either!!) and his coffee break snack as well. And the smaller side compartment is perfect for those things you dont want to mix with your lunch such as your napkin, car keys, bottle of Tylenol, additional snacks, breath mints (and yes, it fits all of these items not just one!)
An adjustable fitting wouldn't work here, with its heavy construction you'd be squishing your sandwich. Nah keep it just the way it is. I'd love it if they made them in other colors so I could get one of my own! (something a little more girly would be nice)
