The stanley brothers singing gospel music - is there anything better or more heart felt? Carter and Ralph's vocals blending together is truely some of the finest bluegrass music. The stanley brothers are definitely true pioneers. This one should be in everyone's collection.

memories of warm and happy days,

This is probably one of the best purcheses I've ever made. This CD has brought me back in memory of my days in the Blue Ridge Mountain's of Virginia where I was born but left at an early age. I remember waking up in the mornings with all theses songs playing on the radio and growing up listening to all the Stanley Brothers songs, we lived in Grundy, Va, only about 20 miles from where the Stanley's were born, and went to all of their festivals at their old homestead. So you can see why these songs mean so much to me. The Stanley Brothers 16 Greatest Gospel Hits are songs that we sang in church and are songs that bring family and loved ones closer together, like sitting out on the porch at night with Mom & Dad singing all of their old hymns from this CD. I've since bought 5 other CD of theirs and have enjoyed the music and memories emencely. I recomend this CD highly, its a must to anyone that enjoys Bluegrass music....

No FLUFF, just pure, "from the heart" Gospel Bluegrass,

I was introduced to the Stanley brothers by hearing their song "Angel Band" on the O Bother Where Art thou? soundtrack. After doing just a little research, I quickly realized they were the real deal. Ralph and Carter Stanley have a collection here of true and pure, soulful memories that must savored time and time again. This music stirs memories of my parents and grandparents, camp meetings, week long revivals and of a simpler time. I realize this collection will be too un-sophisticated for many who listen. But not me. I'll be buying more from these guys.

The One That Started the Quest for More Bluegrass,
By A Customer
This review is from: Stanley Brothers - 16 Greatest Gospel Hits (Audio CD)
My Bluegrass addiction has become out-of-control and it started with this one. The beautiful harmony of the Stanley Brothers is what defined "High Lonesome" for me, beginning with the song "Rank Strangers." Every song on this CD will stay in your mind at one time or another the more you listen to it.

The Stanleys Are Truely The Best,

If you like "Real" Traditional Bluegrass, this is a perfect album for you. Ralph & Carter Stanley began their professional career in 1947. They recorded for Rich-R-Tone, Columbia, and Mercury records. In the late 50's they began recording for King records. This is their finest gospel King recordings from 1958-1966 (Carter Stanley's death was in 1966.) The Stanley Brothers are not your everyday progressive grass, but real, traditional, mountain Bluegrasss. If you like the traditional style, you will greatly enjoy this album.
