Great item!,
This review is from: Stanley Consumer Storage 029025R 24 Gallon Mobile Chest (Tools & Home Improvement)
I bought one of these to store some of my ammo in, a few weeks ago. It is well made and durable. But as good as Amazon is, they are way overpriced on this one item. I paid less than 50.00, and that was regular price at one of the major home improvement chains.
I want another one, so c'mon guys, go check the competition...LOL!

Stanley's Contribution to the Afghanistan War,
By Thomas R. Orr (Tacoma, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Stanley Consumer Storage 029025R 24 Gallon Mobile Chest (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have been in Afghanistan for a year and these trunks are in common use throughout the theater to haul heavy battle gear. We come here with 4-5 seabags full of gear. The "gouge" (tip) is to use these Stanley tool boxes. These cases are great for avoiding the tortuous and infamous bag drag from one plane to the next. Their handles and rollers help (although the handle could be longer).
Some things to be aware of: (1) the other reviews are correct that the latches are way too sharp and have sharp edges that can cut hands and knees - have cut my knees twice because I left the latch partially undone; (2) some airlines won't except and/or charge more. Alaska Airlines shipped the case with no charge despite being oversized and overweight. United Airlines was just the opposite. The case by itself weighs 30 pounds. Commercial airlines limit baggage weight to between 50-70 pounds so that means you can only stow about 20-40 pounds of gear if travelling commercially. You may also get oversize charges; (3)many of us mail these back home so also must deal with USPS weight limits and charges. USPS SAM (space available mail) is the cheapest but a fully loaded box will cost you about $65 to $70.00 going back to the states; (4)Mailing from the states to Afghanistan is more expensive. Amazon's prices are likely high due to the shipping cost - to send a virtually empty one of these to my base in Afghanistan cost $101.70 dollars - hardly worth it. I argued for awhile with my local post office but they could have cared less about where I was headed and trying to find a cheaper way. USPS is just not very military friendly stateside. (5)These things are really great for lugging gear between military duty stations and while travelling on military air - be good to your battle buddies though and don't load them with up to 100 lbs in gear as you (and they) will have to load and unload them on trucks and airplanes. Still looking for the ideal solution to the "bag drag" - another good alternative is the sea bags/duffel bags with wheels. Shop around though and find one big enough and sturdy enough. The one at Tactical Tailor is very sturdy but too expensive at $400 per bag.

Solid and Available for Less,
This review is from: Stanley Consumer Storage 029025R 24 Gallon Mobile Chest (Tools & Home Improvement)
This is a real nice box. Bought it to replace a 24-gal Rubber Maid Action Packer I use for deployments. The Rubber Maid traveled thousands of miles with me but one of the latches never worked properly (poorly moulded) and I want something with wheels. The Stanley looks much more solid and I expect it will hold up well. The latches are a little sharp but I can smooth the edges in five minutes with a Dremel tool. Here's the key thing: Previous reviewers are correct as of Jan '11. You can buy this box for $39.99 at Lowe's. The model number isn't the same there, but search on "Stanley" at the Lowe's site and find the right picture (wheels will be black instead of yellow).

Good Product? Latches Are Dangerously Sharp!,
This review is from: Stanley Consumer Storage 029025R 24 Gallon Mobile Chest (Tools & Home Improvement)
Geez, I must have different thoughts and ideas from most others on what a well designed product is. Forget about the price. I wouldn't buy such a product where the two metal latches to open the lid are so sharp that you could cut your hand(s). Why would any reasonable thinking person want that? I'll pass. $20 or the overpriced $80 everyone is focused on here. If Stanley would just changes these latches to something less conducive to cutting oneself, I'd rate it a 5 star.

Way Overpriced and may break easily,

I agree with others. I bought this at Lowes for $49.99. I will treat it gently in the back of my SUV. Lowes had 6 of them in stock, and I only found one that was not broken. Cracked corners on the main box, missing Stanley nameplate, ripped handle padding, etc. I almost did not buy it for this reason, but I am still hoping for the best as long as I treat it with respect.

Good for Camera Gear, too...,

I agree with the other reviewer. This can be purchased for less than Amazon at the home stores. Meanwhile, these are great as sturdy containers for camera gear....since I do large format and panoramic shots and want a sturdy and portable way to tote stuff in and out of the truck. Thanks, Stanley!

Great for the trunk and moving lots of gear.,
This review is from: Stanley Consumer Storage 029025R 24 Gallon Mobile Chest (Tools & Home Improvement)
Excellent product. BUY IT ELSEWHERE. Don't know why but Amazon is way over priced on this.
I have read about people using this for: Scuba Gear Horse Tack Sports Gear in general Ammo and range gear I personally use it to keep all my gear for tactical deployment in LE. That sounds cooler than it is but basically all I need is available at a moments notice. That's a LOT of gear from boots to ammo and everything in between. I also believe some people actually keep tools in it. Can ya imagine? The box is sturdy and roomy and holds a lot of stuff that would normally be scattered all over your house/trunk. It's a great product that gets 5 stars HOWEVER: Amazon is drastically overpriced on this item. It is available at Lowes for $49.99. Home depot carries it for $49.99 as well but it's almost always sold out. I love Amazon but on this item I could not give them my business. In defense of the person who gave a 1 star review he was right about the price. However we are reviewing the product not amazon. The product is excellent. Buy it elsewhere, and you'll be very happy. I tried to find a link but the pics on lowes web site don't match. Go there and see for yourself it is the EXACT same box as pictured here on this page.

Works for me.,

This is a well built, versatile mobile chest that does exactly what I need it to do. The only reason for not giving five stars is that the pull-out handle is just a bit flimsy if you are going to carry a lot of weight (which the chest can easily handle).

Mobile storage chest in the right size from Amazon,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Stanley Consumer Storage 029025R 24 Gallon Mobile Chest (Tools & Home Improvement)
As a beginner in the short circuit horse shows, we were looking for a convenient sized chest as the first step-up. We looked at several mobile storage chests at Home Depot, Menards's, Container Store and other places - none seemed to fit the bill - too small or too big or no wheels. Based on the smaller Stanley chest we saw at Home Depot, we inquired if there was one slightly bigger - and bingo, we found it online. It has sufficient space to store all the accessories for taking care of your horse or pony.

When big luggage reaches from foreign countries so much, it is surprised though it is when knowing.
Convenience is the highest. The camp tool is stored. |
