3.0 out of 5 stars "American Icon" built in China, November 13, 2010

I've had a Stanley Thermos for 30 years so looked forward to getting this flask. Company touts it as an "American icon that still works as hard today as it did nearly 100 years ago." Like many American products its made in China. The product works fine but its not built to the same material standards as the old Stanley Thermos. Given the materials and low cost labor, its probably over priced.

4.0 out of 5 stars Classy, classy... but mixed reviews., April 18, 2009

I love this flask. Seals extremely well, darker color makes it less noticeable as a flask and the hinge on top flips back and stays back-- doesn't fwonk you in the face. It's got just enough camperly flare to make every night seem like it holds the potential of a fire and sleeping out in the wilderness.
No regrets-- highly recommended.

Comment after months/years of use:
After using this for a while... going to have to say i prefer a generic metal flask. The rubber gaskets get very very sticky and then it's almost impossible to open. This flask uses a hard plastic top, which screws onto the metal flask, which butts up to a rubber gasket sandwiched in between it all. If any of it becomes sticky, it doesn't tighten down (or open), and leaks. Might not happen if you drink something less sugary. I grab the metal one first though.

It's ok. Because of the shape it's a little bulky. The sides are pretty thin, so you have to be careful of denting (dented mine already, almost punctured...). The top and bottom are kind of crimped on. The "lanyard" that keeps the lid from getting lost is made of a medium grade plastic, which probably will be ok if I'm careful, but since I got it for hiking/camping...

Overall decent, though considering it's made in China, I think the price ought to be about half of what they're asking (the majority of "made in china" flasks are around $7-8). You're paying extra for their marketing flair.
