4.0 out of 5 stars Great but not Absolutely Everything, July 7, 2004

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Stanley: The Great Big Book of Everything (Hardcover)
My three-year old son is obsessed with Stanley books and the TV series. It's the best show on television for kids. He knows a ton about all things zoological, thanks to Stanley, Dennis, Elsie and Harry. We've been waiting months for the GBBOE to come out. He's thrilled. The book is wonderful, but would be even better if it had a section were the animals are alphabetized, like in the television series, where they all sing out the letters until they get to the first letter of the animal in question. This would reinforce learning the alphabet. I also had hoped that there would be blank pages or sections where he could draw or paste in his own pictures -- again, as in the TV series, where the book is a kind of scrap book. It'd also be fun for the book to come with stick-on tabs to mark favorite pages.

3.0 out of 5 stars This is not the TV version of the book!, August 14, 2004
This review is from: Stanley: The Great Big Book of Everything (Hardcover)
My daughter and neice both love to watch Stanley and so I bought this book thinking it would be set up similar to the Great Big Book of Everything on the show. I was wrong. This book is not set up alphabetically as it is on the show. It has sections for Mammals, Birds, etc. It then has sub heading such as web-footed animals, spiky animals, etc. You can't just look up P for porcupine....you must go to the mammals section and then look under spiky animals. This book is full of great pictures and lots of good information, but the layout can be confusing. While i still like the book, it is a bit disapointing.

5.0 out of 5 stars great fun with an alphabetical index, May 16, 2006
This review is from: Stanley: The Great Big Book of Everything (Hardcover)
My almost-4-year-old son loves this book. I was originally disappointed with the non-alphabetical organization, but it doesn't bother him, and the index appeases me. My son can now name all the endangered animals in the book, knows which animals eat plants, can spell hippopotamus, and has even started eating a wider variety of foods at dinner (by helping me name the dishes after various animals). He takes the book outside and opens it so the animals "come out" like they do on TV, and he calls his baby brother Dennis (after Stanley's goldfish). I may have to report back in a few more weeks about the durability of the binding, but it's holding up so far...
