1.0 out of 5 stars Skip this one - Doesn't work as advertised, April 19, 2011

I bought this to power some of my photography equipment in the field and wanted one with a display so I could monitor the battery. It seems to work for some things. I tested it with vatious loads nad it provides sufficient current but as soon as I plug a PC in it shuts down and starts beeping even before I turn the PC on.

I have tried 3 different PCs. With one I can run either the PC or the LCD monitor but the inverter shuts off as soon as I plug both in (without turning on either). With the other two errors out as soon as you plug the power cord in.

I have tried two other inverters using the same battery and cables. A 400w Xantrex and a 500w Black & Decker. Both work great and will power my PC with no problem but this one just doesn't work.

I am going to return this ASAP.

I bought this power inverter to wire directly since my car has no dc outlets that work with the car off.

The ac power outlets work fine but the way they are spaced doesn't allow me to use two of my cell phone chargers at once. I tried to plug three different cell phones into the usb outlet with three different usb cables and none of them would charge. The usb outlet just shuts off after you plug anything into it. I exchanged that unit for an identical new one and that one did the same thing.

I am able to charge all three of my phones on any laptop, pc or even other cheap power inverters I have tried. There is clearly something wrong with the manufacturing of this product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Running my Fridge right now.., July 12, 2011
This review is from: Stanley PC809 800 Watt Inverter (Automotive)
So far I have been very happy with this inverter. I picked up from a brick and mortar store during a current power outage. It is running my fridge where a 400 watt Rosewill failed. The display shows that it's pulling around 390 watts on start then settles in around 350. I have additionally plugged in a 30watt lamp, fish tank & a fan. All that together ran into the +400 watt range on the inverter.

Runs strong with the engine running on the car; and would run a few hours once the battery was fully charged. The low battery level detection is great. I just run it with the car off until everything shuts down. Then start the car up and let it run for 30min + to recharge a bit.

Bottom line: works for medium jobs.
