Customer Reviews

The design of the retainer is such that it disengages, causing the staples to fall out.

I contacted Stanley and they've reported the problem to their packaging department... the TRA704s are too long and will not fit in the channel.

This one lasted 2 days while jamming in the chute and backing up staple over staple causing a complete breakdown and repair of unit.

This is the second time I bought this product. The first time was a few years ago and it lasted 3 weary days of jamming and repairing before it hit the trash can. Recently had a job that needed 1/4" staples and thought let's try it again(some reviews say it's good). This one lasted 2 days while jamming in the chute and backing up staple over staple causing a complete breakdown and repair of unit. I repair tools and more, professionally, so assembled back together just to have it jam again. 3 Times in 6 staples, it jammed, then my second one hit the trash can(is where it belongs in my opinion). Would not recommend to anyone, IMO.

This is a great product but BEWARE --- Amazon shows that Stanley TRA704 fit this tool in their 'often purchased together; section ---THEY DO NOT! Even the packaging on the staples says it fits this model but they do not. I contacted Stanley and they've reported the problem to their packaging department... the TRA704s are too long and will not fit in the channel. Aside from that this is a slid tool.

I'm working on a roof, using 8mm staples to tack the paper down. The tack hammer jammed and I absolutely CANNOT find any way to clear it. The instructions are useless, saying to squeeze the stapling end then remove the locking pin (which is where??!), then squeeze the end to remove the chamber (except that the end doesn't squeeze, so what the heck are they referring to?!).

It's a great idea, but a hammer that's jammed is useless.

Mine works with the 1/4 staples great. I tried the 3/8 T50 and they jammed in the feeder (and a bit of a pain to remove). We've gone through almost 1,000 of the 1/4 inch without a jam or a problem. Our original purchase didn't have the instructions attached so we also purchased Stanley 1/2 staples that according to the box would work in this model. They don't, too long. It seems that if you stick to the Stanley brand staples and keep it under 3/8" it will work great.

Miss playing whack-a-mole as a kid? Miss playing whack-a-mole as an adult? Want to just bang on the wall for any good reason? Want to just bang on the wall for no good reason? Got house wrap to put up? Now we're talking!

I've always wanted one of these hammer tackers after seeing the guys on the DIY shows bashing the wall all over the place. It looks so satisfying and fun!

IT IS!

I put up a bunch of house wrap with a gun style stapler and it just wasn't satisfying and my hand hurt like crazy afterwards. Then I bought this tool and put up 400 sq ft of house wrap in about 15 minutes. No painful hands and incredible pounding satisfaction. The hammer tacker works exactly like you see the pros using it on TV except it feels so much cooler when you do it!

Get it, you'll be glad you did.

This product is a disgrace to the Stanley name. As other people have commented, it jams under the slightest provocation, and there is no way to get it apart to undo the jam. It requires a sharp steady blow, and if you don't hit it just right -- it jams. I tried to use it in a tight space to tack down venting around a soffit -- no way to get a full swing -- and it jammed!
Do not go near this product -- it's only use is for scrap metal.

This worked for one day. All i was using for was stapling Tyvek onto my house. It did not even make it around 2 sides and would no longer staple. 2 hours loss of messing with it, ensuring there was not a jammed staple. Took it back to walmart (Closest place that sold these- They come with a lifetime warranty through Stanley) and exchanged it for a new one. The new one finished the house but started to give me issues towards the end.

It took me over an hour to figure out how to remove the jam. Most instructions didn't help because they didn't have a diagram and they weren't descriptive enough. Save yourself a head-ache. Send your stapler to me, along with $8, and I'll chunk it in the trash can for you.
