If I could give zero stars I would!
Out of the gate ... no instructions.
How do you put extra blades in the holder ... just keep trying to shove them in without slicing your hands open.
How do you insert the front blade? Heck I don't know ... keep trying until you slice your hands open.
Hey, there's that familiar screw in the middle of the body, lets use that .... TORX BIT!!!!!
Are they kidding me????
After you finally find the right bit ... it does NOTHING!

I had to go online and search till someone explained how to push and hold the unlock button forward, slide the top stud, then press the little side button.
NOW you get to take the razor sharp blade and insert it into the front, and wiggle it with pressure, all while putting pressure on the 3 buttons that the blade your inserting is trying to push back!

If you haven't killed yourself yet, you will once you put pressure on it it has so much play.

Stay far far away from this piece of junk!

Stanley 10-778L Fatmax Retractable Utility Knife

I reviewed this under the item "Stanley 10-778L," but found this actual item # and decided to place it here. PLEASE, REFER TO THE ABOVE LINK FOR REVIEWS UNDER THAT ITEM for more comprehensive information, as I've ONLY been using this knife for an hour. Some people consider it dangerous. Here's my review:

I bought a combo tape measure & knife (but my knife is model 10-778 WITHOUT the "L," though the picture and my knife look the same). It was irritating that there were no instructions on how to use it; but I figured out the basics.

At first I thought that the lock was to keep the open blade from wobbling. Now I'm convinced that it's to keep from accidentally extending the blade when it's retracted, and it absolutely works for that.** Also, I see the point of other reviewers who say it's difficult to remove the blade from the storage compartment; but I find the design very convenient and will just be ultra careful. I've been using utility knives for many years.

Also I like the unique way of inserting a new blade and, contrary to other reviewers' experiences, NO part AT ALL of the blade sticks out when I retract it. **Of course, while it's locked, one could exert unnatural FORCE to make the blade stick out; but then by unlocking, adjusting the blade and relocking, the blade will completely retract again. I haven't yet tried to remove the blade, so am not sure whether it's dangerous.

Mine was only a single pack (thank goodness, because two would've sent me out of the room screaming!). I got the exact product. Problem? The blade would not stay in the device. I tried everything, pushed all the buttons, pulled all the latches, tried every combination on the knife, and the blade would not stay in!!! My daughter took over, and she couldn't get it to stay. I have no idea how the managed it, but now it stays. Problem is, now it won't slide out! She swears its in there, but I don't see it. The only reason I believe her is that it's now more difficult to slide the top lever. DO NOT GET THIS ITEM!!! Not only do I want my money back, but I want time and half for both my daughter and myself for all the time we put into it! Now a project is left undone and I don't have time to go out and get a new knife!! I should've known it was crap when I saw the packaging attached inside the knife, and the instructions are pointless!! No words...Just crude drawings! In our day and age of high tech equipment, they should've come up with something better than this!! If I could give it 0 stars, i would. There is NOTHING on that knife that's worth a star! I am never sending my husband out to get hardware for me again!! Or, I'll exchange BOTH of them at the customer service counter!

I got this on clearance at a big retailer, and thought I had snagged a deal. But it is very poorly designed. The blade is difficult and dangerous to put in, and it won't retract 90% of the time. It feels solid and the blades are sharp, it's just awful to use though and I'm trying to retract the blade right now and it's not working in any way whatsoever. I'd be better off throwing this away before I hurt myself.
