Product Description

Size: 60-Piece

The STANLEY STMT71650 60pc Socket Set is constructed of high-allowy steel and heat treated for increased performance. Stanley sockets feature the proprietary Max-Drive design, a unique radius corner design which provides 15 percent more torque, making it easy to tighten fasteners and simplifies the turning of rounded corners. This technology helps reduce fastener wear without contact on the outer 5 percent of the fastener, so fasteners last longer. This helps reduce slipping on frozen or rusted fasteners. This 60pc socket set meets or exceeds ANSI standards for sockets and ratchets.

Great set of tools I am very happy with it.
Bryant
I love the tools but one of the snap locks keeps falling off the outside of the case when i open it, so I have to put it back on every time I go to close it.

For those like me who just need some basic socket tools, this is a great set.

First, the set looks to be high quality--especially the ratchets--and you can't beat having a lifetime warranty. All pieces snap in very securely in the case, which is a HUGE deal to me. When you have 85 pieces, you don't want them flying all over the place if you knock the case over. All pieces stayed very secure even when I shook the case around while it was open. Regarding the quality of the tools and case, definitely 5 stars.

Second, I should mention that I was a sent a set that had several pieces with slight wear on them. The two ratchets had some light superficial scratches as well as some small knicks, several sockets had oil from someones fingers all over them, and the case itself had some slight, superficial wear from having been opened and closed repeatedly. I'm certain I got a set that had been used for a brief period of time by someone else. Although this won't affect the quality or functionality of the tools or case... Not cool, Stanley (or whoever drop-ships these for you). 2 stars.

Third, when I wrote in to Amazon about it and provided pictures, within hours they sent me a post-purchase discount. Of course, if I wanted to return it Amazon would have enabled that at no cost to me, but since these tools have a lifetime warranty and the wear was very slight, I'm fine with keeping them. The discount was very fair and proves once again how phenomenal Amazon's customer service is. 10 stars for Amazon.

Not only was the price amazing it was Stanley. I buy Stanley because if it breaks they replace it. I broke a ratchet and one call and a new one was in the mail. I would recommend any Stanley product.

The kit has nice tools, The sizes can be a bit hard to find on the sockets, but that is a minor thing. The thing that gets me is why would they not include a 3/4" socket. the 1/2" set only has sockets from 3/8" to 5/8" in 1/16th increments the 3/8" set has sockets in 1/16" increments from 1/4" up to 11/16" then it skips one of the most common sizes (3/4") and has a 13/16" as the largest socket. Who thought that one up? The 1/4" set goes from 5/32" to 3/8" in 1/32" increments and then includes a 7/16" and 1/2" socket as well which is fine, the sizes between are not needed, unlike a 3/4". I still can't figure how someone thinks a 201 piece set shouldn't include a way to loosen a 3/4" nut, but they throw in a 13/16"

As others have said it is a blow molded case, I think it is nice and sturdy for an occasional use set. If you used it every day, I could see it wearing out before too long. The pieces are very hard to get out, especially the small ones, but I'm sure they will loosen up with use.

Stanley mechanic tools are the most underrated tools of our time. Forget the Craftsman brand, Stanley tools meet the "lifetime warranty" standard of tools and do it cheapest. The 201 toolset everyday price at walmart is cheaper than the best craftsman sale price. I have time and again ran into bolts that have broken the ratchets of other brands, only to have my Stanley ratchets succeed where others have failed.

The other secret about the 201-piece set is that the ratchets that come with the set are the 89-818/819 line versus the 91-929/930 line that you buy individually at walmart. The ratchets that come in the set are 54 teeth with an 8 teeth pawl design whereas the 91-929/930 line are 45 teeth with a 3 teeth pawl. While the 91-929/930 line are strong ratchets (I have also used them for years), the ones that come with the set are even stronger and thus sell for almost twice as much.

With manufacturing moving to china, quality control has probably slipped. Some of the ratchets will feel very rough to turn, just like the craftsman of today. That's because they don't come greased anymore. The first thing you should do before using your ratchets is grease them. Think about it, you have gears grinding on each other thousands of times, there will be wear and worn ratchets will never pull as much torque as new ratchets. You wouldn't leave your transmission un-oiled would you? Snap-On tools come greased. Professional mechanics open and re-grease their ratchets at least every year. It is best to use a light grease as a thick grease would create a thicker barrier between the teeth, thus increasing the odds of one day slipping and stripping the teeth. If it is too difficult to open the ratchets, you can also just dip the heads in 1-2 inches of motor oil; oil will seep out while using it and it needs more frequent oil dippings, but it really is the easiest oil change you can do.

Does indeed lack 3/4" socket.
Arrived jumbled. Worth noting is that the case is sealed by a small screw at the handle (under it). It is hard to see, as it is black, but that is what is keeping it from being opened after you undo the clasps.

I wanted a complete kit since I was lacking a basic set of sockets. Overall, I am happy and appreciate the wide range of socket sizes. The other thing is that some kits artificially increase the number of included tools by incorporating large numbers of drill bits and this set does not do that.

The only downside is that the large ratchet driver is a little bit stiff which can be frustrating at times. Overall, I am happy with the set. It is a great combination of price and quality.
