Stansport Collapsible Utility and Camping Bucket

Now that I have used this bucket over several months, several hikes and a few camping trips, I am happy to say I am pleased with it.

I was apprehensive about buying a bucket with a "vinyl" handle - figured it couldn't take the stress too long, but have been pleased with it.

My 12 year old son carries it full (between his legs, sloshing and bumping it and is not too careful with it), and I have carried it to the brim several times. The handle held up.

The only thing about this bucket is this - if you plan to have it sit around with water in it, rig up a stick (branch) system where the handle is held by the branch. It will fall over and dump its load if you don't do this. It doesn't have to be a support system that holds weight - just sturdy enough to maintain the handle above the bucket.

It's light enough for backpacking and is used all of the time for this as a supply point for my Katadyn water purifier (I full the bucket and then pump from the bucket). Because this bucket is used for fresh water supply, I never used it with soap or chemicals, so I have no idea how they may impact the durability of the vinyl. I also pack it out of sunlight.

I tried all different types of collapsable buckets over the past 30 years but I always come back to this one. I'm glad StanSport keeps selling them. They haven't changed much in all the years they've been making them. Until something better comes along, I'll stick with this reliable old workhorse.

These are great to have camping or even around the house and yard. Cheap, light, hard to lose. Stop using recycled bleach bottles! Every home should have one of these.

Smaller than I expected, I think, but ended up being perfect. I am old and weak and am not going to be able to haul 10 gallons around, now am I? So this is great, part of my BOB in the car. Can haul water or use for washing dishes/people/clothes/chihuahuas. Very glad I bought it.

I totally agree with the other reviewers: a great bucket for a great price. I also would have been put off by the vinyl handle, and would not have bought this but for the previous review. Fully agreed, the handle is sturdy and does not appear to want to fail. I also see that the bucket doesn't have the failing of other collapsible buckets, which want to fall to the side if the handle is not supported. I ran a "tip test" in the kitchen, and even with vigorous prodding, this bucket did NOT want to collapse, tip, or lean over and spill its water. Fully recommended and happily owned.

I'm not a huge fan of bringing those small plastic shopping bags to the woods so this was perfect as a camp kitchen trash bag. Durable and easy to pack.

This bucket is really handy to have around camp. Like a previous reviewer, I usually fill it, bring it back to camp, and filter water from it using my katadyn microfilter. It stands up pretty well when full, which I was surprised by. The handle is also pretty sturdy, which was nice. I haven't put it to and really hard use, but I haven't had any problems with it.
