Designed by the seasoned audio professionals at Stanton, the SMX-301 three-channel mixer is built with club and mobile DJs in mind. Outfitted with Stanton's Superior Sound Technology (SST)--recognized for its ultra low-noise circuitry, high dynamic range, and bleed-free signals--the device can accommodate up to three turntables, six line-level sources, and a microphone at one time. Even better, its impressive collection of features mirrors those of the best studio and broadcast mixers. Among its variety of functions are gain controls and three-band equalizers for each channel (plus an additional three-band mic equalizer), which make it easy to match levels and adjust the tone; individual kill switches for each channel for isolating or removing frequencies from the mix; and a user-replaceable cross-fader and channel faders, a trait shared by all Stanton mixers.
Connectivity is enhanced by the balanced 1/4-inch Master and Booth outputs for connecting to amplifiers, equalizers, crossovers, and other outboard signal processors. Additional jacks include line-level inputs for sources such as CD players, minidisc players, DATs, and samplers; TT inputs for turntables; a combo 1/4-inch/XLR mic input; and a record output for hooking up tape or CD recorders. DJs also have the choice of using either 1/4- or 1/8-inch stereo headphones when using the SMX-301 thanks to the dual headphone jacks. Once setup is complete, DJs can monitor the inputs via the PFL cue switches, which come complete with a cue pan control for splitting the signal within the headphones.
The SMX-301 measures 10.2 by 4.3 by 15.3 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 7 pounds--a nice size for DJs on the move. It also comes with a one-year warranty on parts and labor.
