5.0 out of 5 stars nothing short of stellar..., September 5, 2001
This review is from: Stanton Sessions (Audio CD)
As is usually the case given the ever-expanding list of dance music genres, it is somewhat difficult to classify this outing from British garage/two-step/hip-hop/house/etc/etc duo the Stanton Warriors, so let me just say that it is EASILY one of the best continuous mixes I have heard in a long, long time. With one on the decks and one handling effects, the Warriors mixed this album completely live and on the fly and the result is both astonishing and refreshing. Although it is hard to pick standouts as every track is quality, the studio tracks from the Warriors themselves (there are four on the album) possess an uncanny degree of musical breadth and straight up funkiness. With offers to do remixes of everyone from Roni Size to the Basement Jaxx, the Warrior's own brand of genre-defying sounds is phat to say the least. Their remix of the Jaxx's "Jump 'n Shout" is a potent assault of garage/two-step beats that maintains the energy of the original and "Da Virus" has the illest bassline and kick around at the moment. They also throw in a garage remix of a Busta Rhymes song, two accapellas, and a collection of simply fantastic tunes that blend all of the aforementioned genres and styles into one unique sound that I pray stateside dancers and listeners alike embrace immediately. In brief, regardless of whatever rigid lines you try to maintain while purchasing dance music, buy this album, give it a listen, and I promise you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars The sound of the street, October 24, 2001

Now, I'll be the first to say that I think 2 step garage is a tad overrated. So initially that turned me off from buying this cd. But the stanton warriors stay away from the sugary pop end of the garage scene and stick to the nitty gritty bass heavier side. This mix is the best I've heard in 2001.

5.0 out of 5 stars Breakbeat-Garage: The new wave..., August 28, 2002
By
This review is from: Stanton Sessions (Audio CD)
British DJ's, The Stanton Warriors have been taking Europe by storm lately, and their mix CD The Stanton Sessions clearly shows us why. The premier breakbeat duo consisting of Dominic B. and Mark Yardley finally bestow us with their first DJ mix that is as intelligent as it is uplifting. After the intro, The Warriors waste no time jumping straight into the peak tunes. The first cut on the album is their own reworking of the Basement Jaxx's classic "Jump N' Shout". The journey continues onward as they drop the Plump DJ's track of the moment, "Move It With Your Mind." The Warriors manage even to throw in three of their own new tracks, "Da Virus" being the most impressive. With the sounds of UK Garage and Two-Step emerging in mainstream America (Craig David, formerly of The Art-ful Dodger spent a few weeks on MTV's TRL charts), The Warriors seem poised to strike while the iron is still hot. They added MC Moose for rhyming duties over some of the tracks, and it proves to be a very nice touch. This album has enough soul and melody to keep the garage kids happy, while it still keeps the Warriors respectable with the breakbeat heads. The perfect combination.
