nothing short of stellar...,

As is usually the case given the ever-expanding list of dance music genres, it is somewhat difficult to classify this outing from British garage/two-step/hip-hop/house/etc/etc duo the Stanton Warriors, so let me just say that it is EASILY one of the best continuous mixes I have heard in a long, long time. With one on the decks and one handling effects, the Warriors mixed this album completely live and on the fly and the result is both astonishing and refreshing. Although it is hard to pick standouts as every track is quality, the studio tracks from the Warriors themselves (there are four on the album) possess an uncanny degree of musical breadth and straight up funkiness. With offers to do remixes of everyone from Roni Size to the Basement Jaxx, the Warrior's own brand of genre-defying sounds is phat to say the least. Their remix of the Jaxx's "Jump 'n Shout" is a potent assault of garage/two-step beats that maintains the energy of the original and "Da Virus" has the illest bassline and kick around at the moment. They also throw in a garage remix of a Busta Rhymes song, two accapellas, and a collection of simply fantastic tunes that blend all of the aforementioned genres and styles into one unique sound that I pray stateside dancers and listeners alike embrace immediately. In brief, regardless of whatever rigid lines you try to maintain while purchasing dance music, buy this album, give it a listen, and I promise you won't be disappointed.

The sound of the street,

Now, I'll be the first to say that I think 2 step garage is a tad overrated. So initially that turned me off from buying this cd. But the stanton warriors stay away from the sugary pop end of the garage scene and stick to the nitty gritty bass heavier side. This mix is the best I've heard in 2001.

Breakbeat-Garage: The new wave...,
By Scott A. Hammel (Orlando, FL USA) - See all my reviews

British DJ's, The Stanton Warriors have been taking Europe by storm lately, and their mix CD The Stanton Sessions clearly shows us why. The premier breakbeat duo consisting of Dominic B. and Mark Yardley finally bestow us with their first DJ mix that is as intelligent as it is uplifting. After the intro, The Warriors waste no time jumping straight into the peak tunes. The first cut on the album is their own reworking of the Basement Jaxx's classic "Jump N' Shout". The journey continues onward as they drop the Plump DJ's track of the moment, "Move It With Your Mind." The Warriors manage even to throw in three of their own new tracks, "Da Virus" being the most impressive. With the sounds of UK Garage and Two-Step emerging in mainstream America (Craig David, formerly of The Art-ful Dodger spent a few weeks on MTV's TRL charts), The Warriors seem poised to strike while the iron is still hot. They added MC Moose for rhyming duties over some of the tracks, and it proves to be a very nice touch. This album has enough soul and melody to keep the garage kids happy, while it still keeps the Warriors respectable with the breakbeat heads. The perfect combination.

a fun and funky freshman cut,

not quite nuskool breaks or 2-step with even a bit of big-beat thrown in there for added flava. i bought this cd based on the reviews and was blown away by the impressive range of tracks as well as the mixing. expect alot of samples, turntable tricks, and mind-expanding tracks (my favorite is track 13 the spoon wizard remixed). there are also self-produced choons in the mix that are nuskool retro which harken back to the days of 80's electro breaks (track 15's da Antidote comes to mind). i think that the diva singer coulda been left out of t.powers "Runnin" which i believe is track 16. however this is just a minor gripe to an otherwise flawless masterpiece.

A mad, mad cd by the english duo.Their mixing is supreme bringing breaks with a 2step flavour. The songs that stand out in my mind is the basement jaxx remix of the popular stand and shout. Definately the most memorable is the busta rhymes track "everybody in the place if you with me then common'...". These boys are the plump djs of 2001. If you're into breaks and you dig 2step then you cant go past this one!

everything i've read about this CD is true. it's unclassifiable and it's REALLY good. i've listened to it over and over again and don't get sick of it. nice to hear the late great aaliyah on there. MC moose coulda shooshed for a bit, but that's the only quibble i have. i noticed that the version sold in the U.S. only has 17 tracks instead of 19. i got jipped out of azzido da bass's doom's night but was able to download it on kazaa. still scoutin' for beaut mot plages (or whatever it's called) and any other stanton tracks i can get my hands on. would love to see 'em live. wonder if and when they'll be spinnin stateside!

Championed by Gilles Petersen - the Stanton Warriors were off to a good start. Initially, however I was put off ....I was forced to change my opinion of them after hearing them at London's Fabric about a month ago. Somehow, managing to blend ferocious break beats with MAW's Deep Inside, they demonstrate a unique understanding of their craft and a perfect balance of the best of UK and US dance music. Having recently purchased this CD I urge all curious newcomers to indulge themselves. Stick this on before you go out on a Friday night, I guarantee you'll be boogying before you've finished your ironing. I was!
