Designed to give DJs everything they need to mix in a house or club environment, the Stanton Skratch Pak II package is a good fit for beginners and up-and-comers alike. The bundle starts with a pair of STR8-60 direct-drive turntables, each of which includes a static-balanced, straight tonearm with a detachable headshell; two speeds (33-1/3 and 45 rpm); and a selectable pitch control of +/- 10 percent. The turntables function well in mixing and battling environments, delivering reliable, high-quality sound and efficient performance.

Next up in the Skratch Pak II package is Stanton's SMX-201 two-channel mixer, which offers gain controls and two-band equalizers for each channel, making it easy to match levels and adjust the tone. The mixer, which includes two phono and two line inputs, also boasts a mic channel with a two-band equalizer, user-replaceable faders, and a cue section with cue level and cue pan functions.

To add to a DJ's competition chops, the turntables come with premounted 520-SK cartridges. Named the all-time-best competition cartridge by DJ Craze--the three-time DMC champion--each 520-SK unit combines a thick-walled cantilever (allows for high tracking forces) with a grounded cartridge body that minimizes hum and ensures a top-quality sound. The cartridges also excel at several other applications.

Rounding out the Skratch Pak II package is a pair of lightweight DJ Pro 60 headphones with a comfortable self-adjusting headband and exceptional low-end response; a copy of Turntable Mechanic Workshop 2002 on video; two slipmats and two dustcovers; and all the appropriate connecting cables. The phones offer a frequency range of 3 Hz to 28 kHz and come with a soft carrying pouch.
