Product Description

For sale is ONE kinetic copper wind sculpture with a theme of Dancing Willow Leaves. The blade shaped willow leaves are positioned so the dual spinners will spin in opposite directions once caught in the wind. The entire wind sculpture including the pole and its fixture is made of pure copper with brass hardware. The only metal is the stainless steel ball bearings that are completely covered by brass hardware. Two ball bearings make the two leaf-mounted wheels move independently and opposite from each other. A third bearing makes the kinetic sculpture swivels 360 degrees in the wind. The pole is made of heavy gauge copper and secured into the ground by an all copper 4-point anchoring system. With its heavy duty construction and swiveling head, this kinetic sculpture can withstand strong winds up to 70 mph. The copper leaves are not coated and will age naturally. If you want to preserve its original copper shine, you may spray a layer of clear coat on it. We have had great success with clear coats made by Rust-Oleum and Permalac (Peacock Labs). The craftsmanship on this kinetic sculpture is impeccable. The wheels are finely balanced and maintenance free. The sculpture is entirely weather proof and made to last for decades.

We purchased this kinetic sculpture for our garden after seeing one in our friend's garden - which was much more expensive. This one spins wonderfully in the slightest breeze because of the high quality bearings, looks beautiful and exceeded our expectations. We mounted it on a 2' piece of 1/2" rebar which we pounded 3/4 of the way into the ground and slipped the copper tubing over it. We also coated the copper leaves because we wanted to keep them shiny. We are very pleased with our purchase and recommend it to others highly.

We are really enjoying our wind spinner. We were a little concerned about the cost but quality often costs a little more. The spinner was easy to assemble and erect. Even in 15-20 mile per hour winds the spinner "dances" with the wind. I was instantly impressed with the smoothness of the ball bearings. I held the spinner mounting stem in my hands and spun the vane to feel the mechanism in motion. There was no vibration at all. The manufacturer has used quality bearings with solid, heavy duty machined brass for the stem and mounting of the vanes. This spinner is worth the price.

We bought this item directly from the vendor but felt compelled to write a review here. We had received one of the less expensive kinetic spinners as a gift made by "A.G.", and it was poorly made, flimsy and did not spin. We then went out and bought this product from Stanwood. The company has great customer service, the representative I dealt with responded quickly to my questions. It is more expensive, but this is a case of your getting what you pay for and in my opinion worth the extra expense. It is well designed, precision engineered, and spins effortlessly in the slightest of breezes. It comes well packaged, with easy to follow instructions, and once unpacked can be installed in less than 30 minutes. The materials are all solid and the spinners are perfectly balanced. If you have a level it helps to check that the pole is not tilted and is straight up (vertical). As others have mentioned you can use a lacquer spray to preserve the bright finish. An auto carnauba cleaner/wax such as one made by Mother's (available at Pep Boys, etc) would also work to seal out moisture and preserve it once a year, and it could also be used to clean up an old sculpture that has gone brown from weathering. To convince yourself of this, as a test, take an old penny and see how well it shines up. I would suggest that from time to time you use a little silicone spray (Home Depot, Lowes) on the bearings to keep them moving easily. They are stainless steel and won't rust, but the lube will help the the fluid motion of the spinners. Don't use WD-40 as it accumulates dust and dirt and would eventually have the opposite desired effect. In summary I would say, it is refreshing in these times of cheaply made products to find a product that is enigneered to look beautiful and to truely last.

Update: A few weeks later we are totally enjoying our new wind sculpture every day and its dynamic spinning and beautiful presence in our garden. The pleasure it brings certainly justifies the higher cost.

We just set our "Wind Sculpture" up near our back wall. We were surprised to see that we enjoy watching the shadow images on the wall almost as much as watching the "real thing." We are very happy with it. It moves with the very slightest of a breeze. We sprayed it with a clear coat and hope that that will keep it shiny and pretty.

The Stanwood Copper Kinetic Wind Sculpture is beautiful, well constructed and worth the price. Having just completed assembly I would like to stress a point that is made in the instructions but is easily overlooked. When driving the support post into the ground a rubber mallet should be used and not, as I unfortunately did, a metal hammer. That produced just enough distortion of the opening of the bottom rod that I had great difficulty screwing the top rod into it. If anyone reading this review is as careless as I was, that situation can be corrected by using a dremel tool to smooth the threads so that the two parts engage properly. Otherwise, assembly was very simple and should have taken no more than 10 minutes. It is a lovely addition to our garden.

I was very pleased with this purchase. I bought it for my wife for Christmas and was hesitant to purchase based on some of the other comments saying you could get them much cheaper in the stores. WRONG, the quality and construction on this well exceeded my expectations and night and day quality from similiar styles I saw in the big box stores. The copper poles are about the thickest walled tubing I've ever seen (I was expecting repurposed construction copper, this is easily 3 times as thick)and the stabilizing stakes have about 0 chance of bending or tearing out due to the shear size and strength. The bearings are not pressed in (they're C-ringed) which will make it very easy to replace them if needed. Since I don't intend on storing it over the winter I'm expecting to have to do that at some point. Going beyond the quality of construction, this is just a beautiful piece. The height and width turned out perfect, not overwhelmingly large or so small it gets lost in the surroundings. The patterns it makes are almost captivating and it spins in a breeze I can't even feel. Since I sound so positive I'll throw in the 1 thing that could be better. The welds where the strengthening rod attaches to the leaves is silver colored and I'm hoping it is not a material that will rust away, we'll see. Overall, yes it is a little pricey but after receiving it and setting it up I understand why. Well worth the price.
