4.0 out of 5 stars A jolly little gadget
Okay, let's take some of the passion out of this discussion: This little fastening device is neither the answer to all life's problems, nor a useless piece of equipment. It falls somewhere in the middle.

3.0 out of 5 stars It works, but just barely.
This is a great little gadget to show off, but the spacing between the slit and the strip are too far apart. It comes apart easily if you flip a page or even drop your set of papers. If you're just holding together a couple of personal notes or whatnot, this would suffice. But I would not trust it with something like work papers or homework.

It's OK at fastening 2 sheets together. Anything else and it's too loose and comes apart too fast. Mine broke after using it less than 20 times.

Okay, let's take some of the passion out of this discussion: This little fastening device is neither the answer to all life's problems, nor a useless piece of equipment. It falls somewhere in the middle.

Purpose: It is a little device that cuts a little tongue in a corner of a couple of sheets of paper, and tucks this into a cut on a side, to fasten the sheets together. It works well for a very few sheets of paper, but understandably isn't strong enough to fasten more than three sheets reliably. Staples, of course, can take a lot of punishment and still keep on ticking, unlike this fastening method. Why use such a relatively less-reliable-than-staples method?

(1) Fastened documents can be shredded without hesitation. (Metal staples ruin most shredders.)
(2) Fewer staples in the landfills. (Unless you're the exception, and you think staples improve landfills!)

Environmental Friendliness: A+, once you start using the thing. Unfortunately, see "Packaging" below.

Robustness: Don't know. It looks sturdily built, but only time will tell.

Reliability: I don't expect much from it, but I anticipate that it will work for temporarily holding a couple of sheets together. But one packet of stapled sheets will probably catch on it's neighbor unless you're careful.

Compactness: The gadget is pretty small, a little larger than a golf-ball, which is to say, smaller than a medium-sized stapler.

Packaging: D. The thing came in a big cardboard box, packaged securely enough for a delicate coffee carafe for NASA, and overnight. (This meant that they charge $5:50 for shipping, close to the cost of the stapler itself.) There has to be a better way. I can't think of a stapling emergency that requires this level of shipping frenzy.

If it doesn't hold up to use, I will check back in, but otherwise, assume this is a reasonable investment, with the understanding, of course, that the packaging and shipping is rather expensive and excessive.

Arch, staple-hater.

It's a decent device, though it will tear holes in your paper - beware! Don't use it on anything important :)

3.0 out of 5 stars Intruiging little gadget, January 23, 2010

This product is a really neat little thing. It cuts a slit in one side of the paper, and then cuts another slice of paper and feeds that into the slit. The device is simple and fun to use. Overall I'd say it's a novel device, but the reliability of it to hold paper together isn't as nice as I had hoped. Don't expect this to 100% replace staples. I use it for personal documents and stuff I can afford to misplace or let get disorganized. For term papers/homework assignments good 'ol fashion staple is the way to go. That being said, for the price it's totally worth it. Very cool invention.

most people, including the guy that took the pictures use this thing wrong. that's why it mashes the corners up.

the tool is not supposed to be used on a corner, but an edge.

This was a neat idea... idea's are more common than earlobes.
It just doesn't work.
Wasn't worth the cost and effort to get a refund.
Too bad.
