Oh My!,

This review is from: Star (Audio CD)
What a difference a bit of time away can make! First of all, Meelah, the lead singer, her voice has changed a little bit. It's a bit on the raspy side which is really sexy when she unleashes it throughout the album. But one would have to listen closely. And eventhough Missy didn't write a song for the girls at all on this album... they (702) still rise to the occasion. Of course the album is your basic subject matter (girl got my man/ cheating/ partying), but not with basic or typical lyrics. These songs are really well written, examples of this are: "Trouble," "I Still Love You," and a lot more. The production is crazy. The Neptunes produced two way above average tracks, and the rest of the album is filled with system rattling, thunderous drumbeats and basslines. And the harmonizing, vocal arrangements and melodies are making me drool (excuse me) at this very moment. With very sweet and airy vocals that float and linger in you eardrums, the actual voices of the three ladies is the definite highlite of the whole entire album. Other than that every single track on the album is an 8 or up, no dissappointing tracks here. Best tracks (to me) are: Basically, the 702 girls are back with a vengeance and no matter who else puts out an R&B record this year, this album is INSTANTLY in the top 3 R&B albums of 2003.

I have been a fan since day one. This album off the wall. It's tight man. All the songs are tight.Let your hair down 7.5/10 Star 8.5/10 Trouble 14/10 Off the wall Feelings 14/10 It's that dope Come & knock on my door 8/10 I Still love you 12/10 Beat is banging Reality 9/10 Certified 11/10 tight Places 12/10 Kind of too long but sung so beautifully (sexy) Stringing me along 9.5/10 No Way 8.5/10 Blah blah blah blah 10/10 beat is off the chains Betch She 10/10 sung nicely wit attitude Better Day (Ghetto Girl) 10/10 nice Jealousy 10/10 Beat is gansta I'm Wit It 10/10 cool lay back song This is one of their best work yet to date. This is one of the best female group top 2 RnB cds of 2003. It was a while before they have came out but that absence did help and made them stronger. On this album they brought it and they gave it their all. Go head ya'll. 702 is the best female group of all time. If they had better promotion then they would the top selling female group of all time. Just get this album. You will enjoy it trust me. Peace out and much love to 702 and keep doing ya'll thang. Much love to Indianapolis. Peace!

IT'S JUST TOO BAD,
This review is from: Star (Audio CD)
I say that it's too bad because this CD wasn't properly promoted like it should have been. If I weren't already a fan I would have never known that they came back out. But this CD is TOO RAW yall. No lie. And it's sad that because of the poor sales of this CD that 702 has broken up again permanently. If this album was promoted like it should have been it would have sold really WELL. I can listen to the whole CD with out any complaints or skipping any songs. I love the songs "I still love u", "stringing me along", "feelings" and of course "ghetto girl" just to name a few. Today many people complain about CD's from R&B groups that have no real depth, vocal skill, or good beats that aren't "Bubblegum". But this CD gives me real songs and material that I love. I hope that more people catch on to this wonderful CD even though the potential careers of 702 are now over. Like I said TOO BAD, this album is a diamond in the ruff in a desert of mediocre R&B groups and singers.

This Album Is Great,
By Quicksand (LA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Star (Audio CD)
I just bought this CD(nearly 3 years after its release date) because I was kinda weary of it after reading most of the reviews on this site. But Im really glad I did because this album is great. Althought I havent listened to all of the songs in there entirety, tracks "Blah Blah Blah Blah", "Feeling", "Places", "Betcha She" and "Come and Knock on My Door" really standout.
I can not stop listening to "I still Love You"...that song is hella tight. Sometimes I just drive around LA at night and listen to it over and over again. Its perfect. The only negatives I could point out with the album is the childish "Certified" and the mis-matched "Star". Also, some of the songs kinda have the same beat/instruments but just recycled(cow bells and bass lines). But I must take into account that back in 2003 when the Neptunes were on fire, people liked that sound.

702 shines bright with this new "Star"!!,
By I.B. (Westampton, NJ) - See all my reviews

This new one from 702 brings them into a whole different light. They experiment a lil bit by using a whole new sound again by letting shekepre and the neptunes handle most of the production work as well as others. Overall in many ways I would say they came stronger than their last two by covering more topics than the others. From relationships to abuse to cheating and many other things they cover it all. The only thing I think that could have made it a lil tighter is an interlude or two in between the album but overall it was tight. Songs I was feeling?:*Star Overall I think these songs were the highlight of the album. Im glad to see they came back together to make it happen like it really should. Hopefully people will begin to catch on with this album and help it get the props its deserves.Dont sleep on this one.......Get It!

702's Star Shines Here!!!,

I remember this album when I was 10th grade. I played this album so much that it is clearly a masterpiece. This album is a fresh twist on R&B and hip-hop. The 16-track album boasts the same fun-loving,spiritedness that we have come to expect from the group. Same spirit, and a new mature edge. They put their experiences into words and penned 4 of the 16 tracks. Listen as this album give you eargasmic pleasure. This album should have been promoted more. Remember, this was 2003.

Tight album!,
By CharlieGone "CharlieG" (SB county, CA) - See all my reviews

I only heard one song before I got the album and that was "I Still Love You". I liked it a lot, so I said what the hay I'll get the whole album! To my surprise the album is pretty solid throughout. Theres not a single track on here thats wack. Songs to look for are "Certified," "Come and Knock On My Door," and of course "I Still Love You". The beats are unique and not similar to any other artist out there. Props to producers on this album!

At first I was ready to slam this third CD... but I had to pace myself. 702's CD has a nice little vibe to it! It's seductive and raw! Most of the beats on there are out of this world, but it's the lyrics that I had to listen to. FEELINGS (Mario "Yellow Man" Winans) and I STILL LOVE YOU (Pharell Williams) are two of many songs that just have the smoothest lyrics and the tightest beats! To make a long story short... so many songs... so many life encounters shine on the songs... WHY IS EVERYONE SLEEPING ON THIS ALBUM? Why haven't we heard from our Vegas princesses??? Put "I STILL LOVE YOU" as the next single! That would get their attention! COOL ALBUM! FAV SONGS (in order): FEELINGS

Simply the finest R&B album of 2003!,
By
This review is from: Star (Audio CD)
702's debut album, "No Doubt," was really good. Their sophmore release, "702," was fantastic. Now, after yet another three year hiatus, 702's third studio album "Star" is definitely their best work to date! When 702's lead vocalist Meelah left the group (shortly after the release of their sophmore album) I did not expect another release, let alone possibly one of the best R&B albums of 2003! However Meelah has now returned to the group and her vocals sound better than ever! "Let Your Hair Down" is a great opening track, but the stand-out track has to be the title track, "Star," which is an incredibly upbeat anthem produced by the Neptunes. Other great tracks on the album include "Trouble," "I Still Love You ft. Pharrell Williams," "Reality" and "Stringing Me Along." Of course no album by any female R&B group is complete without an element of 'Girl Power' - "Blah Blah Blah Blah" is definitely the Female Anthem of the year! However I am sad to annouce that, due to poor sales of this album and problems with their record label, 702 have now split up for good. Irish, Misha and Meelah - I wish you girls all the success you deserve! Nevertheless, "Star" is definitely worth getting and I personnally guarantee that this will be the best R&B album you will hear in 2003! If I had to say one thing about this album it would simply be: "Don't wait, just buy it!" |
