This game is fun. That fact is undeniable. However, this is not the first thing you will say about the game. The first thing that will come to mind after playing All Star Baseball for the first time is something along these lines: "how am i supposed to get a hit?" "was it meant to be this hard?" "this is frustrating!!!!!!!!" The controls take some getting used to, especially the BASE RUNNING!!!!!!! If you go in thinking this will be fun for an arcade game, take a pass. The game takes patience and a lot of practice, but in the end it is worth it. Within a week the average gamer should have it mastered and be moving up the difficulty level. Kudos to the game for it's amazing ammounts of stats, graphics, and choices for game types. Curse them for there base running, AI, and lack of first names for players. The announcer is also half dead, but it's good that they at least have an announcer. This game is detailed, interesting, and yes, very fun; it's not for the weak kneed or impatient however.

First off, this game would be all right if it were not for the HORRIBLE baserunning. Not to mention the AI of the baserunners. It will appear obvious that a ball will drop for a hit but the runners will hold and wait until it falls, sometimes getting thrown out in the process. I am not sure if the runners are just slow, the outfielders all have cannons for arms or what but I have been thrown out at first with a single to right field. The hitting is OK, the ball DOES NOT always just go up the middle, try reading the instruction manual on hitting before playing. You must first select the area of the park you want the ball to go before you hit, or do it as the pitch is coming. Keep in mind however, that the latter is extremely to do as the difficulty setting is increased. You cannot slide in any way either, this makes it nearly impossible to steal a base, not to mention hit a triple. So...

Oh, by the way, how many friggin cards do I need to unlock anything?
Also, in the team managment portion, the game will not allow you to trade willingly with other teams. For example, you cannot trade your sub-caliber players for Bonds or Thome, and that is ridiculously LAME.
Some other things that would make this game better:
Bench clearing brawls
The ability to charge the mound
Rain and other elements during a game
Create-a-player mode
First names of players

Great Game, July 24, 2003

This was chosen as the best among the competition. It works well on Game Boy Advance SP (GBA SP). The graphics are good, as is the sound (I turn off the music). The game play is good, but the buttons can be slightly confusing (they switch depending on what is happening), so you may want to consult the manual. The stadium details are very good and required if you are a fan of a particular team and/or stadium.
