Melody is STILL alive!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Star City Baby (Audio CD)
Being 2003, I thought melody, harmony and overall musical craftmanship was long dead, but after one listen to this fine disc I am happily proven wrong! It's hard for me to even know where to start in describing this disc, but let me tell you you will be hard-pressed to find a better pop album in the last five or ten years, and believe me, I've listened to a LOT of POP music. Rap "music" has infested and destroyed (like an insidous disease) the music industry, and now there are few real artists that can truly carry the POP banner, save for bands that have a love for POP music and believe in what they do. Of course, you will never hear these artists on radio, because they don't appeal to baggy-bottomed, know-nothing suburban white kids and therefore, won't sell. The Lackloves have an incredible knack for melody and you'll find yourself amazed at the quality of the songwriting. Like I was alluding to at the beginning, I really thought that melody had gone by the wayside to Rap and its beat-driven, non-musical nature, but The Lackloves reaffirm that POP music is alive and doing quite well, at least in the hearts of true musicians that won't sacrifice their principles for the bling-bling. Now, to the songs. "Goodbye" has that classic 60's Mersey-styled pop vibe, with a little jangle tossed in. "Where Love Ain't Around" and "Love On The Phone" are prime examples of what I was getting at-perfect slices of pure POP with melodies that will stick in your brain LONG after that last MTV/BET Rap video that distorted your TV speakers when you channel-surfed. In conclusion, if you are sick and tired of what has happened to music in the last 15 years and given up on expecting quality music, look no further than The Lackloves, you will not be disappointed.

Fresh sound of the 60's,
By Scott Waldon "middle-aged indie rock guy" (benicia, ca United States) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)

If you like the Beatles, Kinks, etc. then please purchase this. Formed out of the ashes of the Blow Pops (also great melodic rock) this one does not require a skip button. You'll be signing along, and fondly recalling AM radio. Not to say it sounds dated; it just has that feel good sound. Their latest release is not as good; start with this one.

overlooked gem of 2002,

Man,what a great cd. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that it is too short. I will say one thing if you are a fan of Roger McGuinn of The Byrds and his 12 string Rickenbacker then this is the cd for you. This cd is full of great songs and should have been on most everyones best of list for 2002.
