Lunar Mayhem,
By James "tigerblues" (Pittsburgh, PA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Star Cops (DVD)
Star Cops, like many space operas, take incidents at home and translates them into space. But this show also probes into the interesting ways murder can be committed without leaving a trace in a contained environment as the lunar station. An unwilling detective is sent to solve a lunar murder and winds up leading the police force there. The technology and plotlines appear to be just ahead of us in time although this was made in the late 80's. An excellent show and a shame it is only offered in region 2 coding.

Great show, truly cheesy name,

So much better than the cheesy name implies, this outstanding British sci-fi series was probably one of the best hard science fiction TV shows ever produced. Set in the not too distant future a British police detective is sent out to take charge of a multinational force of peace officers dealing with crimes in space around earth. For technology levels think of the movies 2001, 2010 and Outland but as a weekly show.
The crimes are not little green men type things but, refreshingly the same sort of criminal activities we would get on earth. As man moves out to the stars, our same flaws come with us. For example in one episode there are a series of fatal accidents all involving a particular part of the space suits. For uniformity all suits are made by the same company, the police have to find out is the company cutting costs and making defective suits, is someone sabotaging the suits to cost the current company their contract so someone else can get them or are they really just a string of unfortunate accidents? That this is only available on region 2 and has been discontinued is heart breaking. This did air on PBS in the US, I think the title probably dissuaded a lot of people who would have otherwise enjoyed this. If you like hard science fiction and can handle region 2 GET THIS! You will NOT regret it.

I was able to watch this on a PBS station's late night broadcasts too many years ago. I so want it to be available in Region 1 or region-less encoding. I've been waiting so long to see it again. Lucky Brits.
