Book Description

May 4, 2010 Star Crossed (Book 2)
Having been accepted into the summer writing camp in Monterey, CA, Logan worked so hard for in Aries Rising, she is on her way to becoming a real published author! She needs to impress the camp’s instructor, Henry Jaffa, a renowned journalist, paranormal investigator, and fellow Aquarian, whom she hopes will see the promise in her writing and become her mentor.

But when Logan is stuck writing about an obscure folk singer Sean Baylor, whose spirit is rumored to be haunting the quaint seaside town, she is not sure that she will be able to complete her assignment. Will Logan be able to utilize her knowledge of the planets to impress Henry Jaffa, work through her romantic tug-of-war with the camp brooding bad boy Jeremy, solve the mystery of Sean Baylor’s death, all while competing with the overachieving writers for the coveted spots in the camp’s anthology?

Editorial Reviews

From School Library Journal

Grade 7–10—Logan, a budding astrologer, spends her summer in Monterey, CA, at a camp for young writers. She is taught by Henry Jaffa, an esteemed, paranormal investigative journalist whom she wants for her mentor. The only problem: he's had his students swap their project topics, so Logan's stuck writing about local folk-musician Sean Baylor, who is said to be haunting Monterey. Even worse, her crush turned pain-in-the-butt, Jeremy, insists on researching Sean Baylor, too, and it's a race to find out if his ghost is really there. This breezy read is infused with astrology, from the way Logan perceives everyone inhabiting her world to the snippets from an astrology book that she is reading, which are shared at the beginning of each chapter. At times, they are too lengthy and didactic, detracting from the action. It is hard to believe that Logan and Jeremy would not immediately go online to research Baylor, and that the only way she could find his music is when her father happens to own his album. The intriguing paranormal element is, in the end, not that big a part of the plot. This novel will appeal mostly to teens already interested in astrology, though the flashy cover may attract some new adherents.—Jennifer Barnes, formerly at Homewood Library, IL

“I love the layers of this book: romance, meeting new friends, research, mystery, enemies, and ghosts. Each layer just adds more to this fun read.”

KIWI Magazine's Online Book Club, June 2010
“… a tantalizing summer read for any young girl looking for intrigue and just a little bit of innocent summer romance...Hill spins in a story of traditional adolescence with a captivating mystery and the added component of fundamental astrology to make her novel a true page-turner.”

Trails West Branch Library, Independence, MO teen reviewer, June 2010

"Taurus Eyes is a book that once you start reading,  you won’t be able to put it down and has an unsuspecting twist to a beautiful story, because when you combine ghosts, love, and astrology, anything is possible."

Logan is attending the writing seminar with famed author Henry Jaffa. She's excited to show him her work and see if he'll agree to be her mentor. Her plan hits a snag when instead of writing their own topics, they're required to write someone else's topic.

Now, Logan must write about local singer Sean Baylor - a singer in the sixties who mysteriously died one night. She's not interested in writing about him, but grits her teeth and determines to write the best paper possible. However, her classmates aren't as agreeable.

Her new crush, Jeremy, doesn't want to give up his topic. He's taken all the research material, leaving Logan to do some digging of her own. She's more interested in Sean Baylor's life from an astrology point of view. Without many resources, she steps outside the box. Logan uncovers some mysterious clues. Together, the two attempt to unravel the mystery surrounding the singer's death while each trying to win the coveted place in the class.

TAURUS EYES is the second book in the STAR CROSSED series. I love the layers of this book: romance, meeting new friends, research, mystery, enemies, and ghosts. Each layer just adds more to this fun read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Such a fun book!, January 23, 2011
This review is from: Star Crossed: Taurus Eyes (Paperback)
Taurus Eyes is the second book in the Star Crossed series, and I would say it is better than the first. This time around, Logan is at Writer's Camp taught by the famous Henry Jaffa. Throughout the book, we learn more about each of the astrological signs as Logan tries to write her paper from an astrological perspective. Along the way, there is plenty of drama, boy problems, and even ghosts!

My favorite part of this book is the mystery. I absolutely loved guessing what was actually going on. Adding the idea of ghosts to the story was exciting and added to the mystery! Logan was so much fun in this book. She is more sure of herself and what she wants. I really liked Jeremy, her crush this time around, more than Nathan. Nathan always seemed a bit shady to me, so it was nice to see a guy with good intentions. I would have to say their romance seemed a bit premature. One thing I really liked about this book was that Logan put her writing before the boy. I thought that was awesome. So many books are all about getting the guy that it makes it seem like the girl NEEDS the guy to succeed. I liked that this was not the case. The guy was more of an added bonus, not a necessity.

Taurus Eyes was a spectacular addition to the Star Crossed series. I am definitely enjoying everything about this series. Each book is so much fun to read. It seems like I learn something new about astrology every chapter. Before reading this series, I never knew astrology can be so much fun! If you like fun, light reads, I recommend picking up this book.
