This is a very nice looking X-wing.

Also, the pilot's seat can fold down to reveal a storage compartment, a very cool feature.

The Red Leader X-Wing is possibily my favorite Star Wars vehicle in my collection. It comes complete with wings that move into attack position,an opening cockpit that fits the Red Leader figure in it(Included!),a fold down seat in the cockpit for storage, fold out landing gear, and a slot for an R2 unit. The wings spread apart nicely into attack position using a switch on the back that you push down and to the right to lock the wings. The Red Leader figure is good for the X-Wing and maybe some other ships, but not for anything else. He has moveable joints only at his hips, shoulders, and neck. His helmet is not removeable and his face is not very detailed. However, the rest of his body is in fact very detailed. He fits in the ship very well and looks good in it. The opening and closing action on the cockpit works very well, and stays shut and open when you want it to. The fold down cockpit seat is a nice little feature for whatever purpose you want it to serve. There are three places on the ship where the landing gear comes out. One on the front of the X-Wing that folds out and locks nicely. Then two on the bottom of the two bottom thrusters in the back. They are both shorter than the front one and do not lock as well. If touched slightly in the right direction they will fold up easily leaving it crooked and uneven. Only down side to the landing gear. Otherwise it looks perfect for display when they are out. The slot for the droid is nice but too bad a droid was not included. I put one of my own R2-D2s into the slot but that was not the real droid that Red Leader had(Duh! Luke had R2-D2). The Droid also doesn't fit in tightly or snap in,so no upside down flying or else bye bye R2!Read more ›

This is the third iteration of this Xwing (the first being the PowerFX and the second Luke's Red5 with R2D2 in 2002). This was flown under the sign "red 1" and is NOT Luke's. It has a cleaner look to it; there is no yellow stripe, and it has only one stripe on the wing which is technically accurate.

On the toy, it seems they've slightly updated the plastic mixture as it seems less prone to warping than the previous ones and the wings fit together tightly (they wobbled a bit on the older ones). Scale wise, it is probably 9/10 compared to the figures...close enough (the older 1977 and 1995 Xwings and the current trilogy collection Xwing are like 1/2 scale...yuck).

It has some educational value...at least if your child wants to learn the dimensions and nuances of the Xwing (it does encourage reading I guess).

All in all, I love it. It doesn't come with an astromech droid, but since I have like 10 it is no big deal. Remember, R2-D2 does NOT BELONG IN THIS SHIP AS IT IS NOT RED 5. Eh, you can do what you want, but you won't be accurate. The figure fits perfectly; the body is based on the 2001 version of Luke with the generic head they've used a few times.

I have purchased quite a few vehicles in the past, but was very pleased to find this gem. It's size is quite a bit larger than the traditional x-wing and has a more realistic look. It seems pretty durable, except I wouldn't let my 6 year old play with it due to the fact it is going on display. The action figure it comes with is the only downfall of this product. The helmet is not removable and the pilot looks cheap. All things considered, this is a great value!!!

This is a very nice looking X-wing. I find that not only is it better scaled than the OTC X-wing, it is better painted. I'm fine with the lack of a droid, and the rear landing gear are okay, I wish it would have a larger cockpit and some electronics. Overall, nice model.

I have seen this X-wing in a Toys R Us and was quite surprised (and pleased) to see that Hasbro had released another version of this excellent ship. In my opinion, this is one of the most accurate vehicles for the Hasbro Star Wars line in terms of its size and looks (along with the A-Wing, TIE Interceptor, Snowspeeder, TIE Bomber, Naboo Starfighter and Jedi Starfighter). It certainly has some of the most functionability with not only the opening wings, but the R2 droid socket, the detailed cockpit with stowage and the landing gear. I passed up the Red 1 version simply because I already own the similar version of this X-wing (made to look like Luke Skywalker's) and personally found this one to be a little plain without much coloration are wear & tear. I like the red leader figure, however the biggest drawback was the fact that the ship didn't come with an R2 droid. What gives, Hasbro? All in all, its a great looking Star Wars toy and would go well in any collection!

My son received this toy from his grandparents. He LOVES it. I only wish the toy came with an R2 unit. You can buy the R2 action figure to slide in the slot, but until you have that, it just doesn't look right.
I'm a little concerned about the durability of the wings. You can have it in attach mode, or x-wing mode. Time will tell how well that feature holds up.
Overall, really, really cool.

I have always wanted an X-Wing Fighter, but held back because older X-Wings were kind of clunky and didn't look very movie-accurate. But when I saw how closely this version resembled the movie design, I just had to go get one. This vehicle is huge and is well worth the price. The toy's designers did a superb job - the detailing and proportions on the vehicle are amazing! This is one sleek fighter. The S-Foil wing mechanism is simple and effective, with a small moveable tab in the back of the fuselage that slides to the right and locks the wings in place. The landing gear is also pretty movie-accurate and the vehicle looks great in parking position. Also, the pilot's seat can fold down to reveal a storage compartment, a very cool feature. Even the box the X-Wing comes in is nice, with a photo background that makes it look like it is in high speed flight in the Death Star trench.

However, there are two small improvements that toy could have. It should have included an R2 robot, which would have added value to an already excellent toy. Also, the cockpit is very small and just barely fits a typical Star Wars figure. In contrast, the Jedi Starfighter and the A-Wing Fighter have very roomy cockpits that can very, very easily fit almost any Star Wars and GI Joe figure. The pilot that is included here is a bit more on the small side and fits inside the cockpit comfortably, but I think it would have been much better to just scale the vehicle a little bigger to make it more compatible with the rest of the Star Wars line. For my X-Wing, I removed the bottom seat cushion and some interior molding inside the nose to make more room.

Despite those two minor points, this vehicle looks and functions absolutely great. All you need now is a TIE Fighter. I highly recommend this X-Wing! Go get it!!
