I have to say I'm not thrilled with this novel. I love Brenda Jackson, but I should have known from the ridiculous cover that this book was not going to be what I expected. The whole premise of this novel is the idea that a 'playboy' falls for a nice, good girl, but she's too afraid of being in the limelight, that she starts to forsake their love. Brenda Jackson captures the true essence of romance in every one of her books. Star of His Heart is the first book in the Love in the Limelight series and will leave readers satisfy and happy.

Rachel Wellesley is the make-up artist and wardrobe designer on the set of Paging the Doctor, a new hip television show that features doctors. Growing up in a famous family full of entertainment moguls, Rachel has had her share of the spotlight and she wants no part of it. She's determined to stay out of the light and rise slowly to top on her own. Then she sets eyes on the newest doctor on the scene and every thing that she prides herself on, goes straight out of the window.

Ethan Chambers is the next rising star. Tall, muscular, and gorgeous, he has what it takes to be the next big thing in Hollywood and Paging the Doctor is the place to make that happen. He doesn't need any distractions but the moment he spots petite make-up artist on the set, he knows he will risk it all to have her.

Slowly Ethan and Rachel build a friendship while trying to fight the growing attraction between them. One night after Rachel comes to Ethan's rescue, the two give into their desires and passion. Ethan knows he want more than a sexual fling with Rachel but convincing her to risk it all is proving to be the hardest challenge of his life. When the paparazzi finally catch wind of their affair, Rachel must finally make a choice.

Ethan had his work cut out for him throughout the entire book. He was so sweet and down to earth. I just could not understand why Rachel was giving him a hard time. There were moments where I wanted to shake her. Rachel had a lot of issues with the spotlight because after her parents died when she was a young age, the cameras followed her and her sisters around as they grew up. Finally as an adult, she was able to shake them off and live her life like most normal people. I could relate to Rachel's reluctance with going full fledge into a relationship with Ethan because it threatened the very thing she valued and that was her privacy. However, he never did anything to put himself in the spotlight so I felt he didn't deserve for her to block him out completely. I was glad when the conflict was resolved and the two got their HEA which was romantic.

I recommend this book for those die-hard romantics like myself. I'm also looking out for the rest of the books in this series which is written by some of my favorite authors.

A fun quick read with just the right amount of tension. I loved Ethan and was just a little bit upset with Rachel for almost letting a good man get away.

However, I did love Rachel's choice of battle armor when she did decide to claim her man.

5.0 out of 5 stars So lovely, August 15, 2010

A book that made me happy and left me smiling.

Rachel Wellesley is pretty happy with her life. Sure, her job plus working on her paintings after work take up a lot of time but she loves every second of it. She's not interested in a relationship but when meeting Ethan Chambers it's not so easy to bear up. There is an intense chemistry between Rachel and Ethan from the first moment and even though both only want to be friends they can't stay away from each other for long.
Because Rachel is publicity shy and dislikes the media their relationship has to stay a secret. Ethan who is an upcoming actor couldn't care less about the media. But when someone sells their relationship to the magazines and Rachel ends their relationship he realizes that love might not be enough. Will Ethan be able to convince Rachel that their love is worth a chance?

I pretty much enjoyed everything about this book. The main characters are great and likable, right from the start I enjoyed reading about Rachel and Ethan. They never annoyed me and their issues were believable and not over the top. Their love story was sweet and also sexy.
Overall the story is light-hearted and made me think about how the media can destroy a relationship. The book also made me want to read more of Rachel's sister and her best friend (heroine in "Sing your pleasue").

cover
I like it and it suits the book.

final appraisal
"Star of his Heart" is the kind of book that left me happy, contended and with a smile on my face. The characters are great and the issues between them are believable. I had a lot of fun reading this book and if you are looking for a story that leaves you with a warm feeling in your heart then you should try "Star of his Heart".

5.0 out of 5 stars ENJOYABLE READ!, July 31, 2010
This review is from: Star of His Heart (Kimani Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
Brenda Jackson does it again. I truly enjoyed Rachel & Ethan story. Their chemistry leaped off the page and the love scenes were great. The storyline was relevant and gives insight to what famous people go through trying to keep their lives private. Her sister Sofia and friends Charlene and Sofia were a good supporting cast. I'm looking forward to their stories within the coming months. Quick and easy read. I highly recommend this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Star of His Heart!!!, July 21, 2010
This review is from: Star of His Heart (Kimani Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
I really enjoyed this book, it was a fast read kept my attention and left your to mind wandering about the other three women and when their books will come. Ethan and Rachel made a nice match from the start, easy to talk to each other both were able to open up about different tragadies that has happened in their life. This was an area that both were new to trying to build a career and putting every thing else on hold Including any kind of serious relationship. Some people will go to any extreme to do what they fill will advance someone's career or their own ie-Curtis, Paige but at what expence.
Rachel had to realize that the media will try to make or brake you but together love will stand and conquer all. Ethan was there with his gorgeous self to help her figure out what she really felt along with her sister Sophia in her heart.
I can hardly wait for the next book to come out I think it's Rachel's best friend Charlene because she sings. Good read I recommend this series Brenda Jackson did a good send off with this book.

This is going to be a amazing series 'Love In The Limelight' just by this first book in the series. Ethan Chambers loves the limelight because he is trying to move up in the acting profession. Rachel Wellesley hates the limelight because of their hounding of her and her sister when she was younger. Love prevails though and they both realize what is most important in the end. Great story and I am anxious for the next installments by the other 3 great authors in this series.

3.0 out of 5 stars Star loosing its brightness, October 15, 2010
This review is from: Star of His Heart (Kimani Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
I have to say I'm not thrilled with this novel. I love Brenda Jackson, but I should have known from the ridiculous cover that this book was not going to be what I expected. The whole premise of this novel is the idea that a 'playboy' falls for a nice, good girl, but she's too afraid of being in the limelight, that she starts to forsake their love. Of course, there is a happy ending, but you begin to wonder if men really put up with the " I can't be with you" line for as long as he did and still keep saying " I love you, I love you, I love you." It gets old.
Anyway, I love Brenda Jackson so I will continue to read her stuff, but I can't give this one a whole bunch of stars because it would be undeserving.
Better luck next time.

2.0 out of 5 stars Why??, September 30, 2010
This review is from: Star of His Heart (Kimani Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
Why do I keep wasting my money on these books with no depth? Maybe its time for me to change genre. Lately, Ms. Jackson novels are all the same with a change of name. I've enjoyed her earlier books much better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Star Quality...., January 31, 2012
This review is from: Star of His Heart (Kimani Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
I like this read as well as other work by Mrs.Jackson.this is the first in a series about living and loving in the lights of hollywood.rachel shows the "been there...done..." when it comes to being in the lights of hollywood...where as ethan doesn't care one way or the other and it's not changing his lifestyle....This is another one of Mrs. Jackson work where in my opinion is a keeper, and i have read it again just to refresh the continuation of the series that follows.....

2.0 out of 5 stars What Happened?, July 15, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I was super excited to discover this series...and then to find out that Brenda Jackson and Adrianne Byrd were part of it? Lawd, I was overjoyed! Then I started reading this book - and have been left wondering who really wrote it, cause there is no way that this is the same Brenda Jackson that I know and love!

I'm sorry, but this book did nothing for me. I don't mind a little fantasy when reading, so I can usually buy whatever the storyline is, but this one just annoyed me with the whole fear of being 'in the spotlight' thing; even reading the phrase 'in the spotlight' got on my nerves eventually. None of the characters were that interesting and the whole book was just blah. Even the love scenes were so-so. Ms. Brenda, you are better than this!

I already bought all four books, so I have no choice but to keep reading, but I really, really hope the series improves.
