5.0 out of 5 stars Son loved it
My son is a huge star wars fan. He loved opening this up on christmas morn. It sits next to his ATAT and is perfect. The paint on it is great and the size is just right.

This is the best looking AT-ST ever produced for the star wars toy figures line, but is also the most fragile.

The original Kenner toy from the Empire Strikes Back line and all its reissues were smallish and inaccurate (Power of the Force Imperial AT-ST (Scout Walker) Vehicle, Star Wars Power of The Jedi Imperial AT-ST Scout Walker and Paploo on Speeder Bike). Now, Hasbro has finally produced a new mold and a new toy that more faithfully depicts this vehicle.

PROs:
- More movie-accurate representation: weapons, details and overall proportions and shape look great.
- Larger size: bigger cockpit fits two figures; legs extend aprox. 15 inches.
- Greater poseability: Each leg has 5 parts and 5 joints wich can perform a total 7 different motions, just as the models used in the movie. The older toy's legs had just two parts and two joints.
- Two interchangeable "chin" cannons: one movie-accurate and one action-oriented that shoots two missiles.

CONs:
- FRAGILE. Two out of three toys that I got had broken hip-leg joints COMING OUT OF THE BOX. This is very bad because these are the ones that join the legs to the body.
- Several small parts can fall or detach, so it's not for smaller children.
- Very difficult to balance (stand): the concept of the AT-ST itself is very top-heavy, so this is more a problem of the vehicle design than the toy. But the ratcheting joints move only in 60° angles, which really detracts on poseability and may put additional stress on the joints.
- No "walking" action-feature as in previous toys, but compensated by poseability and range of motion.

Overall, I'm pretty impressed by the detail, proportions and range of motion of this new AT-ST, but apalled that they can come out of the box with broken joints. Definitely this is more of a display piece that will be appreciated by older collectors but hated by children.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste you money if you want to actually play with this toy., March 15, 2010

I understand how someone may enjoy this as a display item but as an actual toy it's incredibly frustrating. My 5 year old son has a large collection of Star Wars toys and I have never been so dissatisfied as I have been with this one. It doesn't stand up and once you have spent a long time getting it positioned just so, you can't even breath on it wrong or it falls over and falls apart. He gets so frustrated with it that I may even throw it away. If you're looking for great play value this is not the toy for you.

2.0 out of 5 stars 2010 Hoth version - no improvement!, October 22, 2010
= Durability:2.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:3.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:2.0 out of 5 stars

I just purchased the Hoth set of which this vehicle is a component at the major national retailer to whom the set is exclusive.

There is NO IMPROVEMENT in the design - it still is almost impossible to get it to stand up on it's own. I did in fact find a way, but it was the ONLY way out of tens of different leg combinations - and it STILL isn't too sturdy!

There is a little room on the "soles" of the feet to possibly attach lead fishing weights but I'm doubtful it would do any good. Didn't Hasbro test this out? And if they are going to market a toy like this to kids, with all kinds of extra exclusive figures and stuff (which is cool for the forty bucks plus tax it cost), didn't they realise how kids HATE to have to fight with the thing to get it posed?

Obviously, no one at Hasbro has children or remembers what it was like to be one. I deliberately withhold certain unbelievably cool items from my six year old nephew because I know, practically speaking, that their shortcomings will drive him up the wall (as it would have ME when I was his age).

For instance, a major national wholesale club has for a limited time 1/18 scale die cast metal toy cars by Maisto for twelve bucks - they are an incredible value, a 1/18 Mercedes gull wing is one of the coolest things I've ever seen, with working doors, hood and hatch. It SHOULD be able to fit any number of Star Wars, GI JOE, Marvel or DC Universe figures... but they don't fit because 3.75" (1/18) figures are actually a little too large for 1/18 scale cars and vehicles.

So, rather than make the little tyke crazy trying to squeeze the figures in across the passenger seat, I'll just get him something else. And it's a shame 'cos it really is cool. But kids hate to be frustrated with design issues that make no sense and aren't "PLAY FRIENDLY".

Too bad.

I too bought this and yes the construction is a bit shady and it is somewhat unstable. You really have to manuver this around in order to get it to stand properly. I don't like the interchangeable turrets. Easy to lose for me. However it is great from a childs play standpoint. Also, now that these are going on clearance around the states, they are more resable on price any anywhere from 20-35 dollars, they are worth it for the clearance price. I know the walmarts around where I live have anywhere from 15-20 of them and they are all clearanced. So if you pay full price, you might be dissapointed, if you get the clearance on this, then this is great for display and play. So have fun.

I am an avid Star Wars fan and bought this for my nephew who loves SW too. Looks nice, but very cheaply constructed. You can barely stand it up. I am not accepting the quality of the SW vehicles Hasbro is trying to sell as anything more than a joke. Do not waste your money on this unless you plan to leave in the box.

I am a huge Star Wars Head and I really like the At-St from Return of the Jedi in the Battle of Endor. My Dad bought this for me because I charged him interest in allowance. I got it today and I was pleased, and displeased with some of the results.

I liked: The Detail, The 2 character hatch, The interchangeable gun turrets, and the articulated legs.

I didn't like: The Unbalanced legs. THAT'S IT!

If your looking for a cool At-St, I suggest either this one, or the Hoth Battle pack one.

This toy is only intended for display only. Not for active play. All of my sons other star wars toys are great, have never had a problem with them breaking. Most of them are at least 5 years old. This is a terrible product. Will be returning for a refund. Very Disappointing.

5.0 out of 5 stars not really as bad as it sounds, September 3, 2011
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars

I actually have two of these; when I first saw these at the local Target store I knew I had to buy them. First: it comes with 3 figures, second: the detail is a major improvement from the At-ST I had when I was a kid. The detail is very good and as good as the movie version. I can see where people complain about not being able to pose the legs, or where they say they're not stable enough. I admit I had to play with the joints to get them in the right position, but like I said--I have two of these and they're both standing on their own on my shelf just fine. It really is just finding the right joint position and balance of the head, but they will stand, no problem. I bought these to go along with my new AT-AT walker and I couldn't have asked for cooler grown-up toys. The AT-ST comes with two chin laser cannons; one that shoots two plastic projectiles and the other a fixed movie version cannon. The side concussion launcher and laser cannon affix really easily and turn. The cockpit detail is very good and the articulated AT-ST driver that comes with it fits in the cockpit easily. Like I said--this comes with 3 figures (2 Snow Troopers and a AT-ST driver) and the walker itself is a 110% improvement over the earlier version that came out in the 80s. The biggest complaint I've read is about the poseability, or lack thereof, but with a little patience, you can get these walkers to stand on their own with no problem. The legs are very articulated at the hips, knees, and feet, so a little practice and patience will get them to stand. I also find the legs to be pretty sturdy and not as flimsy as people have said. If you see this walker at your toy store, I highly suggest you buy it as it's a great deal and a good troop builder for your Hoth set. I've searched for them since and haven't seen them anywhere, and I would NOT buy them here for what they're asking for! I see how people have jacked the price up on them, but I didn't pay anywhere near what some are asking for.....
