The sword telescopes in, for storage (which is essential), but it will also telescope (shorten) while playing, which is a bit of a pain. We also had one break off, but that was after some months of abuse, so I guess that's ok. My son loves it, but does complain that it "gets short" while playing with it, and he doesn't like that. He asked for a different sword for Christmas that doesn't do that.

this toy is great for the first couple of hrs but it cannot sustain a kids imagination. After a while they get tired of "Flicking" the saber to life and use it just like a stick.

But its still joy, esp. given the low costs.
