An Astounding Musical Achievement!,
This review is from: Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Audio CD)
Star Wars is and always will be legend. The idea of good vs. evil will always be entertaining to the human mind, and Star Wars has it all. Action, romance, humor, personal struggles, and wonderful storytelling. But for me, the biggest thing that Star Wars has is music. Music is what makes Star Wars legendary.
John Williams is one of the best and well known composers of all time. He has scored the music to several of the biggest and most iconic films we will ever see. He gave life to Indiana Jones, he brought magic to Harry Potter, pulled emotion from us when Anakin Skywalker turned to the dark side, and made Dinosaurs come to life in a Jurrassic Park. So why didn't John Williams compose the music to Star Wars: The Clone Wars? Well, I don't know, but in a way I'm glad he didn't. Its always fun and can be exciting to hear something old become new. That is exactly what Kevin Kiner has done with the new music of the Star Wars universe. And I absolutely adore it. The theme everybody knows by heart is probably the most perfect music we might ever listen to on Earth. It seems like it was not only created, but born, a living creature that breathes and thinks. So, and as expected, the Star Wars theme makes an appearance in The Clone Wars. But not as we've heard it in the past. With so much pressure pushed on Kevin Kiner to create a wonderful, breathtaking experience that meets all the requirements of John William's music, I believe he has done a superb job. He has taken the original theme and made it his own, adding triumphant violins and sort of a "cool" beat into the mix. But the biggest change of all is the way the notes hit your ears. Kiner has mixed the music up a bit so that they're still the same notes we're used to hearing, just in a different pattern or sort of way. It is trully amazing and adds a refreshing feeling to the entire album. Speaking of the entire album, you're in for a great surprise. There is alot of electric guitar, like in "Obi Wan to the Rescue". There is sort of a weird, tribal theme that has a fun feeling to it, which is in the Jabba the Hut songs. Over all, the music is very different than all the other Star Wars music we're used to hearing. It has a different feel to it, and that's a good thing because the movie is different as well: its animated. That doesn't mean the music isn't intense, emotional, or suspenseful! In the end, my favorite music is the recreation of the main theme, which is heard in the beginning and the end of the soundtrack. If you're a Star Wars fan, buy this music. You won't be dissapointed and it is fun to hear something you're used to hearing, only in a different way. If you're not a Star Wars fan, or in this case if you're not into John William's music, I would still recomend it because it IS a totally new take on the Star Wars franchise, and I believe you'll enjoy the new take on the "old" theme. Kudos to Kevin Kiner for putting a smile on my face.

I'm a big fan of John Williams, and when I heard this, I knew I would be in for a few surprises. They were great surprises! Although this is different from what Star Wars fans have heard before, there are still traces of the original scores in this music, along with a few new surprises! I love this soundtrack, and reccommend it to other Star Wars fans!

The Force is with Kiner. I can't wait to hear more on the series.,
This review is from: Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Audio CD)
I really enjoy this soundtrack. I bought it the day is came out. My first impression was that I liked it, especially the new, albeit, shorter version of the main theme. The more I listen to it, the more I love it, especially when the volume is turned up a bit. The overall style is a bit different than John Williams but it still feels like Star Wars to me, especially after viewing the film. There are a few tracks that have a little electric guitar. At first I was surprised to hear this but it's pretty cool, and I think it really works with the movie since it's animated and has a different feel than the other Star Wars movies (since it's going to be a tv series). The guitar soon blends in with the orchestra and subtle synthesizers.
A few tracks on this score are even reminiscent of some of John Williams' music for the Star Wars films. I think that "Admiral Yularen" really has the feel of some of the music from A New Hope's Tattooine scenes and a little of Cloud City. "Sneaking Under the Shield" to me is reminiscent of "The Trip to Naboo" from The Phantom Menace, and lastly, "Ziro Surrounded" reminds me of "Jango's Escape" from Attack of the Clones. Again, the more I listen to this score the more I love it. I'm huge fan of everything Star Wars, especially the music so I'm always craving any new material. I especially like the score to Knights of the Old Republic 2 by Mark Griskey. I'm glad that Lucasfilm and LucasArts are creating original music for their new titles instead of using the same old songs from the movies, like Star Wars games of the past. Kevin Kiner uses some instruments that haven't really been used in Star Wars before. There's a lot of Middle Eastern inspired music for some of the Tattooine scenes as well as a good blend of synthesizers throughout. Kevin Kiner's use of synthesizers reminds me of Jerry Goldsmith's usage of them. If you're a fan of John Williams' Star Wars scores, but maybe want something a little different, you should enjoy this. Just don't pretend that this is John Williams because it's not but it's still really good. My favorite tracks include Admiral Yularen, Landing on Teth, Sneaking Under the Shield, Scaling the Cliff and Courtyard Fight.

The movie soundtracks from the star Wars films vary between drama and subtle emotion.Less so here. The Clone Wars is a *war story*, and the more delicate tones, while existing, are less commonly heard. Drums, reminincent of war drums used to call troops to battle, are strong & reverberant throughout much of the album. Virtually every track rings of the heroes of the Republic. Drums like a thunderstorm. Thrilling. Some exceptions are some nifty, jazzy tunes, played while Padme enters a Hutt gangster's lair. Overall--good stuff, and themeatically related to the original movie score. The Hipster gives it a Thumbs Up.

With the release of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, much attention was given to the movie itself. Much maligned in the original theatrical run, the launch of the series, currently in Season 4 on Cartoon Network with previous seasons available on DVD and Blu-ray box sets, needed a score. Many "critics" through in their opinions, comparing Kiner to John Williamson, the original composer of all the Star Wars films scores. This was unfair.Kiner has done an outstanding job with the score. He is responsible for musical themes for not only individual characters, but for all the planets/ environments (and like Williamson has been kept on for the ongoing series). He has taken the music, and made it accessible to a different kind of audience. The music has more "electronic" instruments, such as electric guitars, and that is a good thing. One of the reasons my own kids love music is because of the Star Wars scores- including this one. They have even learned the titles of individual pieces of music which they love.

Finally I've bought my favorite movie's soundtrack! This soundtrack is packed with the clone wars songs from "The main theme" to "The end credits!" It has 32 songs and includes a fold out mini poster! The songs are great! It's well worth the money. I highly recommend this to clone wars fans! Thank you!

Don't be put off by a cartoon soundtrack-this is some seriously good road trip music. In keeping with the war theme this Star Wars soundtrack is much more martial while still borrowing heavily from the original John Williams soundtrack. Fans of the orchestral soundtrack found in the movies will not be disappointed by this offering: there is plenty of brass and drum to go around as well as a choir, a la the battle between Darth Maul and Qui Gon Jinn. World music and sitar like instrumentals are at home on this disc also. There is even some heavy metal inspired guitar backgrounds in one track.
Even though The Clone Wars is a cartoon, on a cartoon network, I do not believe it is really for children. The Clone Troopers swear, albeit mildly, and there are plenty of shots of them getting their heads cut off or having to be triaged and air lifted to the field hospital. Hardcore fans of Star Wars should not be afraid of this soundtrack. I like it better than the soundtrack for 'The Phantom Menace'.

This is a good interpretation of Star Wars. It has that grand style for not being John Williams. Someone can walk into this in the middle of the album and know it is Star Wars. It is a great listen regardless.
