Book Description

October 1, 2004
Star Palate is a collection of treasured recipes from some of the most noted and beloved celebrities of our time. The 80 recipes are personal and family favorites, shared by stars from all walks of life, from pop culture and music to sports, business, and the food world.

Ever wonder what Pierce Brosnan’s favorite dish is? Or what Dr. Phil cooks at home? Everybody loves Raymond, but what dessert does Ray Romano love? Which dish does Jay Leno crave after the Tonight Show? Star Palate brings these cherished recipes to your own kitchen, and does it for a great cause.

Tami Agassi was a 30-year-old breast cancer survivor when she dreamed up Star Palate as a way to promote awareness of breast and ovarian cancer and to raise funds to fight for a cure. It’s a cause that is close to the hearts of many celebrities, and before long, recipes and stories were coming in from stars of all kinds.

Tami teamed up with Kathy Casey, a gifted chef, food writer, and owner of Kathy Casey Food Studios in Seattle, and the result is a first-class cookbook that is easy to use in your home kitchen. Culinary stars rallied to the cause as well, giving Star Palate further splendor with recipes from world-famous chefs such as Emeril Lagasse and Iron Chef Morimoto.

With breathtaking photography, delicious recipes, and a personal touch from your favorite stars, this book has a lot to offer, and by purchasing Star Palate you are helping to give something priceless to women around the world. The proceeds from the sale of this book directly benefit research for the fight against two of the most dangerous cancers that affect women today. Half of the funds are dedicated to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation in New York, and half to the Marsha Rivkin Center for Ovarian Cancer Research in Seattle.

So roll up your sleeves and get cooking. It will make you feel like a star, and women everywhere will win.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good for the cause, not for the food!, April 2, 2005
This review is from: Star Palate: Celebrity Cookbook for a Cure (Hardcover)
I received this book from my father-in-law, an aspiring chef and husband of a survivor. While we think many of the recipes are not that original, we value the authors use of time to help the cause. A little disappointed in the "celebrities" chosen, my wife and I would have preferred those who really know how to cook. For example: Britney Spears is not really known for her cooking (ie: her now defunct restaurant) though Emeril was a good choice. Katie Couric was a cute choice but does she really cook? I can honestly say that some of the recipes did look like renditions of many others I have seen in other cookbooks. However, the reason for the book is the reason to buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Star Power Put to Good Use, October 26, 2004
This review is from: Star Palate: Celebrity Cookbook for a Cure (Hardcover)
This is a great cookbook and I thoroughly enjoyed the insight to what the stars profess to cook - and presumably eat. Only the likes of Anna Kourkikova could come close to making borscht look sexy. There is a good mix of all courses from a wide range of well known celebrities. I don't consider myself a star gazer but I know of most of the ones in the book. Several well known chefs also contributed their better known recipes. My favorite is the Benehina salad dressing from Chef Rocky Aoki. That stuff makes anything taste great. Most of the recipes are quite simple. Joan Rivers provides the penultimate in this category - toast. It's all I expected of her though. Probably the best thing about the book though is knowing I contributed to a good cause. After seeing it I bought several more for Christmas presents.

5.0 out of 5 stars A perfect mix of delicious food and photograghy, October 27, 2004
By
This review is from: Star Palate: Celebrity Cookbook for a Cure (Hardcover)
This cookbook is a must have. I hosted a dinner party and each guest selected a recipe from the book. The recipes were easy to prepare and the food was absolutely delicious. Anne Currie's pasta recipe on the cover was sensational. The Rosemary Puff's were a big hit too. Flipping through the gorgeous photos and recipes may satiate one's curiousity as to what the 'star's' eat, but actually preparing these recipes with your own two hands and savoring them is even more satisfying. I plan on buying an abundance of these to give away for the holidays, knowing that the proceeds will benefit a great cause.
