4.0 out of 5 stars Give us more, Pam!, September 25, 2005
This review is from: Star Struck: A Novel (Hardcover)
Okay..never considered to be a big Pam fan, but I am a Tommy Fan (or should I say Jimi Fan?)and LOVED getting the dirt on their relationship. After reading Tommy's version and remembering when she had her miscarriage (and the blood thirsty media chasing her that day), this book was sad and moving....A great "beach" read...Reads easy and makes time pass quickly.

Give us another, Pam...and to all those downing your books: Pam might not be George Orwell or Hemmingway, but if you are looking for that type of book, why did you buy this one in the first place?

1.0 out of 5 stars Star Struck Strikes Out, August 28, 2005

FFGirl "angie-chan" (Marysville, Ohio United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Star Struck: A Novel (Hardcover)
The prequel to this book, Star, was a lot funnier and more entertaining then this dreary trash. Granted, I'm not calling Star a great work of literature by any means (I'd give it 3 stars), but at least it made for a good "junk" read. In Star Struck, nothing flows or connects, thanks to the horrible grammar and editing. The sex scenes, which are probably supposed to be this book's selling point, make you cringe and wish it were over after the first sentences. It is a quick read, much shorter than Star was, but the pointless plot and mind-numbing organization will force you to put this book down before you reach chapter 3. To give you an idea of how bad the flow is in this story, imagine reading something that is composed entirely of random sex scenes and dopey dialogue cut and pasted onto book pages.

I skipped to the last few pages of the book to see what came of this mess, and between the sentence fragments and rushed final scenes, I can confidently summarize this 190 page disaster in 5 sentences:

1) Star ends up tripping on ecstacy that is slipped in her drink by rock star Jimi Deed, and ends up marrying him that night.

2) In between sexing each other up in their post-ecstacy haze 3 days later, Star whines about this random guy who has been taking pictures of her everywhere for his website.

3) By coincidence, as soon as this mystery character is mentioned, he is discovered in Star and Jimi's hotel room and makes a run for it, and ends up danging from the balcony, or something.

4) Without a single thought regarding the situation, Star and Jimi (now sober) pry the photographer's fingers off the balcony and record him with a camera plunging to his death, and then go about their normal lives like they didn't just murder a human being.

5) Star gets bad press for being a heroine fiend, her brother Hank ends up stealing tapes Jimi and Star have, including the one recording the photographer's murder, Jimi and Star get in a car chase with the police, they try to drive off a cliff together, but the cops stop them and end up shooting Jimi up as Star is dragged away and screaming that she is pregnant with Jimi's baby.

There. I just saved you from what could have been the most agonizing hour of your life. Let's hope that both Jimi and any hopes for a sequel to this book stay dead and burried.

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointment Struck, September 8, 2005
By
This review is from: Star Struck: A Novel (Hardcover)
What a drag. I, like most of us, ordered the book as a fun summer beach read, like the first book by Anderson. Look, if there are mispellings and punctuations in the preface, you know it's not gonna be good. And it isn't. While the first book, Star, was fun and frothy and made some sense, this one seems rushed to print and because of that, doesn't flow, doesn't connect and just is in no way believable. Half the fun of the first book was trying to figure out who everyone was in Anderson's roman a clef. Not so with this book, just a random plot (killing people that annoy them?) with a ridiculous, "Thelma and Louise" ending. Save yourself the money, don't bother with this one.
